For some, April 29 is going to be a very early morning. Canadians excited by tomorrow’s marriage between Prince William and Kate Middleton will be setting alarm clocks and getting up to watch the live ceremony set to start at 5 am EST. And with an expected global audience of 2 billion – or one in every 3.5 people – that amounts to a lot of sleepy people.
But Rogers customers need not worry. At 5 pm on Friday, April 29 and until May 2, you’ll be able to sit in front of the TV, your computer or your tablet and watch the full CBC coverage of the historic nuptials on Rogers on Demand channel 100 or Rogers on Demand Online for free. Not only will you be able to watch the entire wedding ceremony, you’ll also have access special content including pre-wedding events, and post-event highlights which amounts to more than 7 hours of royal wedding content. In addition, Rogers on Demand will have a selection of more than 15 royal themed movies available, starting at $3.99.
If you’re still keen to get up at the crack of dawn and catch the ceremony live, you can tune into Citytv’s coverage of the royal wedding which begins at 5 am EST (4CT/3MT/2PT) on Breakfast Television and continues throughout the day on CityLine, CityNews at Six (Toronto) and the primetime special, Citytv and HELLO! Canada…Your Invitation to the Royal Wedding. Royal wedding coverage will also stream live online at Citytv.com/royalwedding and the Citytv iPad app.
Busy all day April 29? No problem. You can relive Citytv’s full coverage of the Royal Wedding online until July 31.
After the wedding, you’ll be able to find special editions of both HELLO! Canada and Macleans focused on the royal wedding.

‘Tis the season for festive flicks, holiday apps & karaoke
I love this time of year. ‘Tis the season for entertaining – and for being entertained.
It’s also a great time of year to be a Rogers customer as we have loads of ideas to make the most of the festive season whether you’re at home in front of your HD TV, your computer or on the go.
Here are some fun things sure to create a smile over the holidays:
- Peruse the holiday folder on Rogers On Demand (Digital Cable TV channel 100). It has heartwarming classics like It’s A Wonderful Life and hilarious hits like National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, as well as more recent holiday favourites like Elf and The Polar Express. Many of the flicks are available in HD.
- Click on the Holiday Channel on Rogers On Demand Online (RODO) for holiday episodes of popular TV series, like Glee and Modern Family. You can also rent holiday favourites on RODO like The Muppet Christmas Carol and Santa Claus: The Movie.
- Set the mood for your holiday get-together with commercial-free hits from the Galaxie music channels – available both on Rogers On Demand and RODO. Holiday music genres include Traditional Holiday (channel 710), Smooth Jazz Christmas (channel 744) and Franco Fête (channel 750). If you’re not looking to have holiday music at your party, we’ve got dozens of other channels from ambient to country to top 40.
- Keep partygoers warm and toasty with The Fireplace Channel (HD channel 574; SD channel 204; channel 100) or kick your party up a notch with Karaoke On Demand (channel 100) – just be careful, you may not get rid of your guests until the wee hours of the morning.
- Grab some great holiday-flavoured apps for your smartphone. Vancouver’s Breakfast Televison recently featured Dustin, one of our Data Guyz, talking about the No More Socks, Point Inside and Postcards from Santa apps. Check out the clip below:
How are you planning on entertaining this holiday season?

More Hannah, Mickey & Winnie, how and when you want it
Warning: unless you are a parent, please disregard this blog post. It contains Hannah Montana.
Though my three-year-old daughter loves her Treehouse, it’s only a matter of time before she grows into the kiddie TV big leagues. Yes, I’m talking Playhouse Disney and then Family Channel.
Parents with older kids and tweens know names like Mickey Mouse, Winnie the Pooh, Hannah Montana and Baxter well. And now, Rogers is bringing you this programming at your convenience and at no additional charge for Rogers Digital VIP customers.
Here’s how you can find it on Rogers:
On TV – Rogers Digital VIP subscribers can now find Playhouse Disney on channel 218, and Family Channel remains on channel 225.
On Demand – Go to the new Family OnDemand channel to get Playhouse Disney and Family Channel programming at your convenience. Find it at channel 212 or through the Quick Start menu.
Online – Parents, take back your TV with Rogers On Demand Online! In addition to the other great kids programming on the site like Teletoon and YTV, soon customers with Digital VIP subscriptions will be able to get Playhouse Disney and Family Channel shows on computers with Hi-speed Internet. Please check back over the next few weeks.
Not a Digital VIP subscriber? No problem – you can order through www.rogers.com/vip, by visiting a Rogers retailer or calling 1-888-Rogers1.

RedBoard Video: Introducing Rogers on Demand Online Rentals
Break out the microwavable popcorn…Rogers on Demand Online Rentals is here.
As mentioned last month, the recently-launched online movie rental service features the latest new-release movies from some of the biggest Hollywood studios, available to rent online the same day they are in store and on DVD. The new rentals service has hundreds of titles to choose from, including $4.99 new releases and $3.99 library and catalogue titles.
Once you purchase a movie, you’ll have access to your rental for 30 days from the purchase date, and if you fall asleep halfway through, you’ll still be able to pick up where you left off with a convenient 48-hour viewing window.
As part of our RedBoard video series, I spoke with Jeremy Butteriss, Rogers Senior Director of Broadband Entertainment. We talked about Rogers on Demand Online, he showed me how the new rentals service works and we talked about what’s next for Rogers on Demand Online.

Rogers on Demand Online Rentals to launch next month
We have some exciting news to share today about our video-entertainment offering.
Next month, we’ll be launching Rogers On Demand Online Rentals, featuring the latest new-release hits from the biggest Hollywood studios, available to rent online the same day they are in store and on DVD.
The service will launch with hundreds of titles that are over and above Rogers On Demand Online’s current portfolio of more than 2,500 hours of prime time, sports and movies from more than 60 networks and content providers.
While we’ll have more to talk about soon, here are some highlights:
- $4.99 new-release movies available for rent the same date they are available at the local video store and $3.99 library and catalogue titles.
- You have 30 days from purchase to start watching your movie and a full 48 hours to view the movie once started.
- The ability to stop the movie and resume watching from where you left off the next time you log in to Rogers On Demand Online within the 48-hour viewing window – so you can finish a flick on your lunch break the next day at work.
- Streamed rentals directly from Rogers On Demand Online – no download required.
- Social features to leave comments, rate movies, share with friends and create playlists
Meanwhile, we also unveiled some interesting survey results today about what you are looking for – and excited about – when it comes to the future of video entertainment. The online poll of more than 1,000 Canadians was conducted for us by Angus Reid
- More than 60 per cent of Canadians report that when it comes to the future of entertainment experiences, they are most excited about the ability to watch their entertainment and movies on their own schedule.
- More than 80 per cent agreed they want to be able to access the entertainment programming they have at home across multiple screens.
- Nearly 60 per cent of 18-34 year-olds said they prefer to watch their entertainment on “My time” – what they want, when they want.
For more information on the new service, you can visit www.rogersondemand.com, its Facebook page or follow @RogersRODO on Twitter to get the latest updates and provide us with feedback on the service.
What are your thoughts on the new service? How have you changed the ways you enjoy video entertainment?
