Globe Trotting Mama talks travel and roaming tips

Heather Greenwood-Davis We recently caught up with Heather Greenwood-Davis, who is currently on a year-long worldwide adventure with her husband and two sons.  She is the Globe Trotting Mama – a freelance journalist whose work appears in the Toronto Star, Dabble Magazine, Urbanmoms.ca, Canadian Family Magazine and more.

She is constantly on the move, from one adventure to the next. We were curious to know how a jet setting family like hers spends the holidays. With so many Canadians planning trips abroad over the holidays and 80% of them planning to use technology to stay in touch with friends and family, we wanted to ask Heather how she incorporates her mobile phone into her travels. A recent survey found that almost half (48%) of Canadians will use their mobile phones while travelling during the holidays, so we wanted to know what kind of  roaming advice she has for fellow Canadians in the same boat. We’ve equipped her with Rogers wireless services to keep her organized and connected. With her iPhone powered by Rogers along for the ride, she’s been taking work on the road and keeping in touch with loved ones.

Where are you are right now as we speak (Dec. 9)?

I’m currently in Cape Town with my family. Cape Town is a stunning destination with an incredible history and we’ve been able to spend time at amazing places like the One&Only Cape Town resort where we were fortunate to try out everything from the Kids Club to the Spa.

Keeping in touch is important for Canadians while abroad. More than three-quarters (77%) of those Canadians who plan to use their mobile phones while travelling during the holidays said they would be connecting with family and loved ones. How has it been for you in terms of working on the road and staying in touch with loved ones?

It’s hard enough to find the time to write a postcard when you take a week’s vacation, on a year-long trip it’s that much harder. Being able to stay in touch with family and friends and colleagues while I’m on the road has been incredible. Having my iPhone along for the ride has not only made it convenient to stay in touch but has also allowed me to access to sites like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. It has made keeping our blog up-to-date that much easier. Without the phone? We’d be out of luck.

How and where will you be celebrating the holidays with your family?

We’ll be in Namibia over Christmas. I’m looking forward to taking the kids on their first safari and exploring the people and cultures in the country. A lot of our travel in Namibia will be self-driven and it’s a real comfort to know that even in its most remote areas we’ll have the ability to connect with the world through our phone.

Besides your iPhone, what other technology did you bring with you?

We’re travelling with two laptops and a tablet. It seems like a lot but because we’re also teaching the kids as we travel and we opted not to bring a ton of books along, they need to have an instrument they can use to access the web for learning and the tablet is easy enough and rugged enough to withstand their rough play. I need a laptop for my writing and my husband uses the other to help edit photos, update our website  or check sports scores from back home. We are all skype users as well and having the laptops and tablet along with us mean we can chat with family and friends back home easily. It also makes long train rides a little easier on everyone.

Have you been using any travel applications on your iPhone, if so which ones?

I’ve got a ton of favourites and I’m finding new ones all the time.  I like the XE Currency App which helps us figure out new currencies as we go. I like that I can keep a list of currencies showing at the same time which means that even if my head is still in Argentinian Pesos, I can also see how many of those are in my South African Rand.  The kids like to find new language apps as we travel: They liked Busuu for Spanish and Babelingo for Mandarin. We have Expedia and TripAdvisor on our phone as well which means we can find hotels and get reviews to help us make a decision. And then there are also things like the Maps app which (when coupled with roaming) allows me to make sure the cab is taking us where he says he is; and the iTorch4 app which gives us a great flashlight for searching in the dark in shared hotel rooms. And there are so many more that we’re starting to check out – especially given that we are home-schooling the boys this year.

Many Canadians like you will be abroad over the holidays, with their phone in hand, what kind of advice do you have for them?

I love that Rogers new roaming passes means you know how much you’re spending up front. I’ve had the data roaming situation in the past where you think you’re managing your phone well but come home to an astronomical bill. The roaming options work much better at allowing me to stay in control of how much we consume. I’d also remind travellers to make sure they keep an eye on apps that might be running behind the scenes without their knowledge. The simplest way to be sure is to turn off your apps when they’re not in use. That way you can be certain any data that is being consumed by your phone is being done on purpose.

Thanks Heather. We wish you a happy holiday and look forward to hearing more from you.

Heather will be continuing to travel the world, while connected with Rogers, until July of 2012. We will keep you updated on her journey.

Tips on Rogers Products and servicesYou’re busy. We get it. So our friends at Connected Magazine are always putting together what they call “10 second tips:” quick and easy tips to help you get the most out of your Rogers TV and wireless experience. Here are 3 quick ones:

Create a Rogers on Demand Online Playlist

Want to set up a movie marathon? Why not add 15 minute musical interludes to the mix so you can take bathroom or snack breaks? Just set up a Rogers on Demand Online Playlist so you can play TV shows, video clips, music videos and movies without having to return to the main menu. Here’s how:

  1. Register for Rogers on Demand Online. It’s free at http://rogersondemand.com
  2. Sign in and find the shows, movies or clips you like. Click on the + symbol under the item to add it to your playlist
  3. Click My Playlist when you’re done. To watch your items, just click on one and your playlist will start.
  4. After your video is done, you can continue to select other videos from your playlist which will be located down the right side of your screen

Check your monthly wireless usage

Are you going to go over your monthly data? How many minutes do you have left? Here’s three ways to find out:

  1. Go to rogers.com and log into your My Rogers account (or create an account for free). In the wireless section, click Load Wireless Usage and presto! There’s your usage for the month
  2. Download the free My Account app from your device’s app store. Open it and select Check Wireless Usage. Done.
  3. You can also find out your usage on your phone. Select Internet from the main menu or just text HOME to 4836 and select the My Account link from your home page. Click More under My Account.

Create a Rogers on Demand PIN Code

New release movies or sporting events on Rogers on Demand can incur rental charges. To rent anything, you must enter your own code. You probably already know that the default code is set to 0000 but if you want to change your PIN, here’s how:

  1. Press settings twice on your Rogers remote
  2. Scroll down the list and select Purchase: PIN, Press OK.
  3. Scroll through and select Enable to activate your PIN code. Follow the prompts and when complete, press Exit.

Did you find these tips helpful? You can download and print this How-To here which includes the above 3 tips and more. You can also find more handy how-to’s here.

Roam around the world with first-ever real-time data usage alerts

Rogers Roaming data passesSummer is the peak time for hitting the road, flying the friendly skies or riding the rails and we’ve got some news that will help make keeping in touch worry free: introducing our new U.S. and International Roaming Data Passes. We’ll help you monitor your usage with real time alerts while travelling and save you money on roaming costs so you don’t get a bill surprise on your return.

What is the new offer?

Starting as low as $5 per day, there are several options so no matter where you’re going, we’ve got you covered with multiple Day and Week Data Pass options that help you save on standard roaming rates. There are lots of options depending on your travel destination, length of travel and data usage needs.  Check out the chart below for the complete rundown of the Day and Week U.S. and International Roaming Data Passes (click to enlarge):

Rogers Data roaming passes

If you’re jet-setting to the beaches in Thailand or backpacking across Europe for the summer you will be able to accurately track your data usage so you will always know how much data you’re using to do things like search for directions on your smartphone or email pictures to your friends back home – a feature only offered by Rogers.

When you begin to access data services on your mobile device while roaming, you will automatically receive a text message with the option to purchase a Roaming Data Pass or continue with the pay-per-use roaming rates.

If you purchase a Roaming Data Pass, you will receive real-time alerts, up-to-date within five minutes, when you use 50%, 80% and 100% of your data, so you will know how much is left in your data bucket. Once you have reached your data or time limit, you will receive a message with an option to purchase an additional pass or continue using pay-per-use data services. In order to continue data roaming, you will have to select one of these options.

If you initially choose to access pay-per-use data roaming, you will be able to access data roaming until you exceed a data usage threshold. Once you have reached this usage threshold, you will be notified and then asked to make a choice to either continue at pay-per-use rate or to purchase a Roaming Data Pass. This way, you avoid all bill surprises from roaming data charges.

How to get it?

Customers have the ability to pre-purchase a Roaming Data Pass up to 30 days prior to using data services in their selected destination.  Once purchased, the data pass will automatically activate upon using data services while roaming in the respective region where the Data Pass is applicable.

No need to call in. You can easily add a Day or Week U.S. or International Roaming Data Pass right from your phone. All you have to do is:

  • Text “TRAVEL” to 7626 on the Rogers network and a link will be sent to your phone to allow you to purchase the offers.
  • From your mobile device, visit www.rogers.com/m/roam
  • Or, wait till you land at your destination and follow the prompts on your mobile device to purchase

Want more information about travelling with your phone? Check out www.rogers.com/roaming to learn more about our new Roaming Data Passes, our new unlimited U.S. roaming text messaging offers and our other roaming offers.

Rogers Data Share plans makes it easy to share data across multiple devices

Last year you told us you wanted to be able to share data across the devices you use, and we responded at TabLife TO in December by being the first service provider in Canada to announce data sharing plans. We wanted to take some time to explain how these plans work and highlight some of the key benefits.

Why would you want to share your data?

  • It means only one plan to manage– share your smartphone plan with your tablet, netbook or Rocket mobile internet stick
  • Maximize your monthly data usage – get the most value by sharing your monthly smartphone data allowance with up 4 additional devices
  • Save each month – Add a device for as little as $10 per device per month plus Government Regulatory Recovery Fee (GRRF) (limited time only)
  • Greater flexibility – get a plan that works best for you (three-year term with hardware discount OR month-to-month without hardware discount)

How these plans work

Whether you’re a new or existing smartphone customer, there are a number of flexible options that will let you share data across multiple devices.  You can check them out here.

After you settle on a plan that makes your data shareable, you can add additional devices to this plan. For just $10 per month plus GRRF (limited time only), you can add a new or existing device that you already own. For those saving with a hardware discount agreement, the price per device to share is $15 a month plus GRRF (limited time only), with three year term.

Can you explain that to me again?

Ok, let’s say you’ve got a Sony Ericsson X10, and you’d like to get a new Rocket stick but want the convenience of having only one plan to manage all of your devices.  You currently have a voice plan with a 2 GB data plan that costs $45 per month plus GRRF, and you’re three months into your three year term. You’d first change your data plan to the equivalent 2 GB data share plan, also at the same $45 plus GRRF price. Since your X10 is already on a 3-year term plan, there’s no effect to your current term or hardware upgrade eligibility. From here, you simply have the Rocket stick added to this plan. If you don’t want a 3-year term on your Rocket stick, you simply purchase the Rocket Stick at its full price and pay $10 a month plus GRRF to share the data with this additional device.

Eligibility

To take advantage of these plans, your primary line must be a smartphone, and you can’t combine them with other special offers. Corporate plans are currently not eligible for sharing, and the Rocket hHub isn’t compatible with data sharing plans. Please contact a Rogers representative for full eligibility details.

$30/ 6 GB Customers

Our 6GB customers are very important to us. That’s why we created a special limited time offer when we launched iPhone 4 last summer that allowed them to share data on an iPad for an additional $20 per month plus GRRF.

If you missed out on this offer, you can still share smartphone data on an additional device for $30 per month plus GRRF. This works out to just $10 per shared GB – less than our other wireless customers on sharing plans.

How do I get full details?

We recommend you visit www.rogers.com/datashare, call 1-888-Rogers1 or visit a local Rogers retailer to get full details. You can also check out this clip below from Vancouver’s Breakfast Television where Mike, one of our Data Guyz recently appeared to discuss the data sharing plans.

How many devices do you have? Do you share data?

Rogers confirms LTE deployment; invests in Canada’s “Digital Fast Lane”

Rogers and Long Term EvolutionBack in October, we announced Canada’s first comprehensive technical trial of Long Term Evolution (LTE) on our wireless network. Well today, we took a major step forward with the announcement that we are beginning a multi-year deployment of LTE wireless technology in 2011.

It’s clear that the world’s wireless products and networks are evolving to LTE and we’re pleased to lead in bringing this technology to Canadians.

LTE is fourth generation “4G” wireless technology that allows significantly more data to pass through a wireless network at faster broadband speeds. For our customers, LTE will truly enable a world defined by data, providing a true broadband experience for HD video streaming, gaming, communications, transactions and other connected experiences through mobile Internet. LTE will drive Canadian innovation and fuel what Nadir Mohamed, our president and chief executive officer, calls the “Digital Fast Lane.”

We’re excited about this news so we wanted to provide an update as soon as we could, but that also means we can’t share specific details yet about when LTE will be commercially available, which devices will be LTE-ready and which cities will get LTE first. We’ll be sure to update you here on RedBoard when more details are available.

Finally, a note on 4G: While there is confusion about what constitutes 4G technology, we won’t use that term to refer to the HSPA+ technology that Rogers first introduced in North America in 2009. When Rogers says 4G, we mean LTE.

Samsung Galaxy S Captivate update

After several manufacturer delays we’re pleased to report that Rogers has received our first shipment of the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate smartphone. This morning, we began shipping these units to retail locations and a limited supply of inventory will be in stores over the next few days.

Here’s a message from Paul Brannen, Samsung Electronics Canada Inc.’s Vice President, Mobile Communications, regarding the delay:

Due to a worldwide shortage in Super AMOLED technology screens, we regret that Samsung was unable to deliver the Galaxy S Captivate to Rogers in time for the scheduled launch. The continued shortage has resulted in repeated delays. We know this is a widely anticipated device and apologize to Rogers customers. We’re pleased to say that we have begun shipping the device to Rogers, though shipments will be limited over the next few weeks. Samsung is committed to supporting Rogers with further notices, on the Rogers blog RedBoard and via Samsung Mobile Facebook and Twitter pages.

Until Sunday, October 24, the Captivate can be pre-ordered exclusively at www.rogers.com/captivate for the promotional price of $149.99 for new customers with select three-year term voice and data plans. Starting October 25th, the Captivate will be available for new customers at $179.99 with three-year term voice and data plan.

Existing Rogers customers who fulfill hardware upgrade eligibility requirements can purchase the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate for the promotional price of $149.99 with select three-year term voice and data plans until November 2, 2010. To upgrade to a Captivate, please visit an authorized Rogers retail location near you.

Meanwhile, as part of our RedBoard video series, my colleague Miranda MacDonald spoke with Rogers’ Michael Nguyen about the Captivate, the built-in Social Hub feature, memory size and the OS upgrade path. Check it out below. You can read a full transcript of the video here.

Rogers announces first LTE technical trial in Canada

We’re proud to share some exciting news today. Shortly we’ll begin a comprehensive technical trial of Long Term Evolution (LTE) on our wireless network. The technical trial will take place in the Ottawa area.

What is LTE?

LTE is a fourth generation (4G) wireless technology that will enable lightning-fast HD video streaming, gaming, communications, transactions and other connected experiences through mobile Internet. LTE allows significantly more data to pass through a network at higher speeds of up to 150 Mbps and it will become the foundation in a world defined by connected experiences.

What’s happening in Ottawa?

Ericsson, in co-operation with Rogers, has been conducting LTE lab testing comparing speeds and performance of LTE technology in multiple frequency bands. Rogers will expand on this testing and move to a comprehensive technical trial of LTE on both low and high band frequencies across the Ottawa area.

The technical trial will initially use recently auctioned AWS spectrum. Rogers is also working with Industry Canada to secure a development license to use 700 MHz spectrum for the trial.

What does this technical trial mean for Rogers customers?

Rogers was the first carrier to roll out HSPA+ in North America about a year ago, giving customers the ability to get speeds of up to 21 Mbps via a new Rocket Stick. We’re proud of our HSPA+ network, and when the market is ready for commercial deployment of LTE, we’ll be there.

When there are more details to share, we’ll update you here on RedBoard.

iPhone 4 launches tomorrow on Rogers

We’re excited to share some news about how our customers can upgrade to iPhone 4 which launches tomorrow. As the Canadian carrier with the most iPhone customers and experience, we’re making a commitment to allocate the majority of inventory we receive from Apple to existing customers wanting to upgrade to the iPhone 4.

And while we can’t do this every year, we’re excited to announce a special upgrade offer that gives our iPhone customers the chance to get an iPhone 4 at a discounted price until September 30, 2010.

Rogers customers have the flexibility to upgrade to any new device at any time by paying full price for the device. However, as a benefit of being a Rogers customer, we’re investing in a special iPhone 4 hardware upgrade offer to reward our customers for doing business with us, as long as they activated a Rogers iPhone on a term contract on or prior to June 7, 2010 – the day Apple announced iPhone 4 at the Worldwide Developers Conference.

Here are the general guidelines about the iPhone 4 special hardware upgrade:

Did you activate or upgrade your Rogers iPhone on a term contract between January 1, 2009 and June 7, 2010?
Then you’re eligible for at least $250 off the no-term device price. That’s an iPhone 4 16GB/32GB for $399/$499 on a new 3-year voice and data plan.

Did you activate or upgrade your Rogers iPhone on a term contract on or before December 31, 2008?
Thank you for your business. You’re eligible for at least $480 off the no-term device price. You can pick up an iPhone 4 16GB/32GB for $159/$269 on a new 3-year voice and data plan.

Did you activate or upgrade the original Rogers iPhone 3G in 2008 and then upgrade again to the Rogers iPhone 3GS between June 19 and September 15, 2009?
You’re also eligible for at least $480 off the no-term device price. You can pick up an iPhone 4 16GB/32GB for $159/$269 on a new 3-year voice and data plan.

How do I check my eligibility for this special iPhone 4 hardware upgrade program?
The easiest way for you to check your hardware upgrade eligibility is through www.rogers.com/iPhone. (UPDATE July 29, 2010, 3:13 PM: We are experiencing technical difficulties with our HUP eligibility tool and it may be giving incorrect results. We’re aware of it and are working on it. While we do, the tool may be temporarily unavailable. Thanks for your patience. UPDATE August 16, 2010 11:20 AM: The technical difficulties are resolved and the tool is working correctly.) Aside from this special iPhone 4 offer, regular hardware upgrade program policies apply. If you take advantage of this early hardware upgrade offer, your new 3-year term will begin immediately. Savings under this special upgrade program are determined based upon the length of time remaining in your existing term and the specifics of your selected plans.

Any news for new iPhone 4 customers?
New customers can purchase a 16GB iPhone 4 for $159 or a 32GB iPhone 4 for $269, each with a new three-year voice and data plan on Canada’s proven and reliable network. With Rogers, you get unlimited access to Rogers WiFi hotspots for free as well as unlimited social networking to the top seven communities in all iPhone data plans and our Handset Protection Gurantee. The Handset Protection Guarantee is subject to terms and conditions. To read the full program terms, go to http://www.rogers.com/protection.

What about Fido customers?
Fido also has a special iPhone 4 promotion for its customers. For customers who entered into a Fido agreement on or before June 7, 2010 and want to upgrade early to iPhone 4, Fido will provide a special iPhone 4 discount by way of a bill credit of between $250 and $490. In addition, customers may contribute all accumulated FidoDollars towards their upgrade. Go to www.fido.ca/iphone for full details.

How to get your iPhone 4
Worldwide demand for the iPhone has been high and quantities are limited. At launch, the iPhone 4 will only be available at Rogers stores and authorized retailers, and not by Customer Care or Rogers.com. We recommend you contact your local Rogers retailer to confirm units are in stock. Our goal is to get an iPhone 4 into the hands of every customer who wants one, so visit www.rogers.com/iphone to find updates about stock levels.

Data on data

Here’s an overview of some great new and in-market plans that will get you up and running with your iPhone 4.

Return of special smartphone $30/6 GB plan
Effective July 30, and as a limited time promotional offer for smartphone customers who activate on a three-year contract, Rogers is offering 6GB of data for $30. This data plan can be added to any in-market voice plan before September 30, 2010.

Share with your family
Now that you’ve upgraded to iPhone 4, what do you do with your 3GS? Pass it on through our Family Share Plans and share minutes, messaging and data. Starting August 4, add additional voice and data lines for just $25 per month (plus Government Regulatory Recovery Fee) on a three-year term for up to five people!

*New* smartphone and iPad sharing plans
You’ve told us you love our in-market iPad plans and the ease of activation on Rogers – but some of you have asked for device sharing and we’ve listened. Starting July 30, and for a limited time until Sept. 30, customers on a 6 GB plan will be able to share data between iPhones and iPads for an extra $20 (plus Government Regulatory Recovery Fee). For details, visit a Rogers retail location.

We’ll also try to answer as many questions as we can in the comments below. We recommend that you do not call our Customer Care representatives as they have no additional information and will not be able to process your hardware upgrade at this time.

UPDATE (August 9, 2010, 1:05 PM) Hi everyone. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused this past weekend as many of you expected iPhone 4 to be back in stock at our stores. In an effort to get devices available as soon as possible, we are expediting all shipments to stores outside our normal process. Unfortunately, there was a miscommunication on Friday and stock was not available as expected on Saturday.

We are trying to be as transparent as possible and provide you with timely information. Obviously, this isn’t a perfect process and we appreciate your patience. Stock that was en route Friday will be arriving in some stores today. Additional inventory will be arriving throughout the week. Due to high demand and limited quantities, we strongly recommend that you call ahead to ensure that iPhones are in stock.

UPDATE (August 12, 2010, 12:25 PM) We have more news for you on iPhone 4 availability. We regret to say that Rogers retail outlets have sold out of iPhone 4s. The good news is that we expect more stock to start appearing in stores later this week, most being on shelves by Saturday.

As before, inventory remains limited so we recommend you contact your local store to confirm units are available. In the meantime, Apple retail stores may have iPhone 4s in stock.

Rogers remains committed to getting an iPhone 4 into the hands of every customer who wants one. We’re reading each and every of your comments on this post and will respond with whatever information we can.

Are these updates useful to you? Please let us know in the comments below.

UPDATE (August 14, 2010, 3:00 PM) The latest round of iPhone 4 stock at Rogers stores is once again sold out. We’re receiving regular shipments from Apple, so we’ll update this post again once more stock is available. Until then, you may want to check Apple retail stores to see if iPhone 4s are in stock.

UPDATE (September 1, 2010, 3:11 PM) A limited number of iPhone 4s have again started to arrive at Rogers retail locations. Considering the limited inventory, we recommend you contact your local store to confirm units are available. In addition, Apple retail locations may have stock.

UPDATE (September 3, 2010, 4:39 PM): iPhone 4 stock at Rogers stores has sold out. Regular shipments are coming in from Apple, so we’ll update this post again once more stock is available. In the meantime, you may want to check Apple retail stores to see if iPhone 4s are in stock.

UPDATE (September 10, 2010, 2:33 PM): This week, inventory of iPhone 4s was more limited than previous shipments. As a result, it sold out immediately in most cases. An Apple retail location may have stock.

UPDATE (September 16, 2010, 5:15 PM): A limited number of iPhone 4s have again started to arrive at Rogers retail locations. As in past weeks, they will likely sell out quickly. We expect to get new shipments in store each week. As shipments will be consistent on a weekly basis, we will no longer be updating this post. If you’d like to check iPhone stock near you, please contact a Rogers or Apple retail location.

UPDATE (September 29, 2010, 1:43 PM): Good news for those of you who have been unable to secure an iPhone 4: another shipment is starting to arrive in stores today.

We encourage you to head down to a Rogers retailer to pick one up over the next 24 hours or so. As always, we recommend you contact your local store first to ensure stock is available.

Our goal is to get an iPhone 4 to every customer who wants one.

UPDATE (September 30, 2010, 2:35 PM): An update on Rogers/Fido iPhone 4 promotions.

When Rogers/Fido launched the iPhone 4 on July 30, we announced special offers for our new and existing customers. Since then, we have activated a significant number of devices with 80 per cent having gone to our existing customers. These special offers were scheduled to expire on Sept. 30, but we have some good news to share.

First, we are extending the 6GB/$30 promotion until Oct. 5. Second, we are extending one component of our early Hardware Upgrade offer through the end of the year. Any customer who activated or upgraded an earlier version of the iPhone with Rogers/Fido on a term contract on or before December 31, 2008 will continue to be eligible for at least $480 off the no-term device price when they upgrade to an iPhone 4. They can pick up an iPhone 4 16GB/32GB for $159/$269 on a new 3-year voice and data plan.

While other components of our special iPhone 4 early HUP offer expire today, Rogers and Fido customers can continue to take advantage of our standard hardware upgrade savings. Fido customers can also add their Fido dollars to their Hardware Upgrade for additional savings.

BNJR Mom I <3 Paris! Rogers introduces new U.S. and International Text Messaging Travel Packs

sms-travel-packsYou’ve got your ticket, itinerary and passport all ready for your summer vacation.

And, if you plan to bring your smartphone along for the ride we’ve got some news that will help make keeping in touch less costly: our new U.S and International Text Messaging Travel Packs, featuring a greater number of included text messages with a rate as low as $0.10 per sent message in the U.S. and $0.20 per sent for International. And best of all, received text messages are free!

What is it?
U.S. and International Text Messaging Travel Packs are a one-time purchase of text messages at a discounted rate for use while outside of Canada.

Travel Packs are valid for one month from the date of purchase. And, if you run out of the included text messages, you can keep on sending messages at the reduced rate provided by your Travel Pack until that month is up.

The U.S. Text Messaging Travel Pack text messages may be used all over the U.S., including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The International Text Messaging Travel Pack may be used for international text messaging excluding the U.S., Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Cuba.

What are the new rates?
Text messaging Travel Packs range in price from $12.50-$50 and can save you up to 87 per cent off Rogers regular text messaging rate outside of Canada, depending on which Travel Pack you choose.

To find the one that’s right for you, check out www.rogers.com/travelwithyourphone

How to Get It?
You can add a travel pack right from your phone:

  • Text “SAVE” to 7626. A link will be sent to your phone to allow you to activate the pack.
  • Or, select the Internet icon from your phone’s main menu to get to the Rogers Mobile Internet site, www.rogers.mobi. From there, click the My Account link, select Browse New Services, then click Travel Packs.

Also, if you frequently travel to the U.S, you may want to check out Rogers recently announced One Rate data roaming plans. For about $10 more a month than equivalent domestic plans, you can use the same data allotment in both Canada and the U.S. to check email or use your phone’s mobile internet.

Where will your summer vacation take you this year? Have you ever used a Rogers Text Messaging Travel Pack?
