See your voicemail: Introducing Rogers Visual Voicemail Plus

Visual Voicemail Plus from Rogers

Sometimes I just can’t pick up a phone call. There are countless scenarios where answering my phone is not an option, like when I’m in a meeting, at the movies,  have my hands full of groceries or when my friend is in the middle of recounting a really important story that requires my full, undivided attention. Once you miss a call, you can’t always call into your voicemail mailbox right away to see what the person had to say, even if you’re extremely eager to find out.

Today Rogers launched Visual Voicemail Plus, included in new Rogers Value Packs. It’s another first from Rogers and it’s available for most phones. What’s great about Visual Voicemail Plus is that not only do you get the audio file pushed to your phone but the message is transcribed to text and sent with the audio file as an attachment in a single message. This means you no longer need to dial into your voicemail inbox, enter your password, and listen to all the prompts – your audio message and transcription is just a click away. One of the other key benefits is that you see the list of your voice messages and can directly access the one you want, rather than having to listen to each one in order they were left.

Visual Voicemail Plus is available for select BlackBerry and Android devices and is managed via an application, as well as available on other smartphones and mobile phones that support MMS (picture/video) messages with messages delivered via MMS.

How to get Visual Voicemail Plus

Contact Rogers to subscribe to the service. BlackBerry and Android users can download the Visual Voicemail Plus app from Rogers Mobile Internet Portal or the Android Market. For these apps, everything is synchronized between your device and traditional voicemail mailbox. This means that if you delete or view a message in the app, it will be deleted or marked as Saved in your voicemail mailbox. For mobile phones that support MMS, you just need to set up your voicemail to get started and messages will be saved on your traditional voicemail mailbox once they have been delivered to your phone via MMS.

Get your home phone voicemail sent to you your mobile

Visual Voicemail Plus also allows voicemail messages to be forwarded as MMS messages from your Rogers Home Phone. Just log into the voicemail online portal and click on the “message to MMS” tab.

Get your voicemail on your computer

If you’re already using the recently launched Rogers One Numbeservice, you’ll be glad to hear that you can now integrate Visual Voicemail Plus via MMS on your computer too.

Do you have a memorable voice message that you continue to keep saved? Care to share?

UPDATE (February 29, 2012, 10:50 a.m): If you’re looking for a little more information on Visual Voicemail Plus, just head over to www.rogers.com/visualvoicemailplus

Revolutionize your relationships: Introducing Rogers One Number

Introducing Rogers One Number. This new service exclusively from Rogers lets you talk, text and send picture messages, and video chat with other Rogers One Number users, all from your computer using your existing phone number. By using Rogers One Number, all calls to Canadian numbers, video chats with other Rogers One Number users and outgoing wireless text messages are free.

How might you use it, you ask? Well, if you’re like me and you’re always on the go, family and friends can now call your number – the same one they’ve always used – and rather than leave a voicemail (again!) you can have it ring on your computer or up to five phones of your choice so you’re always reachable when you want to be. Or, if you spend a lot of time calling that special someone, you can switch the talking onto a computer with Rogers One Number and you’ll no longer use up your daytime mobile minutes. And, if you want to take it a step further and stare into each other’s eyes, you can seamlessly turn the call into a video chat with the click of a button.

To really understand how it works, you have to see it in action. So to help me do just that, I recently sat down tech expert Winston Sih, to give you the details. Check it out:

Rogers One Number is available for free to eligible Rogers wireless customers, so there’s really no reason why you shouldn’t head over to www.rogersonenumber.ca and sign up right now. Once you’ve given it a try, let us know what you think by leaving us a comment.

How will you be using Rogers One Number?

Stumped for holiday gift ideas? We’ve got you covered

BlackBerry 9790 from Rogers

Just announced by RIM today, the much buzzed about BlackBerry Bold 9790 is coming to Rogers- just in time for the holiday gift-giving season!  The combination of the high resolution touch display and improved keyboard makes it a much-desired device to be unwrapped this season.

Even though we have all year to seek out the perfect presents, somehow the holidays always creep up on us, leaving no time to spare. If you’re like me, this time is usually characterized by a handful of rushed, last minute dashes to the store, with scribbled lists in hand.

If a BlackBerry is on someone’s wish list this year, we can help. Here are the details of the newest BlackBerry smartphone:

  • The BlackBerry Bold 9790 runs on the latest BlackBerry 7 operating system making it powerful, yet compact (perfect stocking stuffer size!). The BlackBerry 7 OS is the fastest, most powerful browser for a BlackBerry to date, which means 40% faster loading than the earlier version
  • It also has a 1 GHz processor. This means faster access to apps, web browsing, games and more.
  • The Liquid Graphics Processing Technology displays crisper graphics so that holiday treat on your screen will appear even more scrumptious.

Blend in your BlackBerry with the snowy scenery

If you’re looking for a lighter finish, good news, the BlackBerry Curve 9360 and the BlackBerry Bold 9900 will be available from Rogers in pure white.

Packed with social apps, the fun and stylish BlackBerry Curve 9360 keeps you connected with your crew. The pre-loaded social apps and latest messaging and social networking tools make it even simpler to stay social. Whether it’s planning that last minute winter escape or sharing your shopping deals, everyone’s in the loop.

The 5.0MP camera and 720p HD video recording capability on the BlackBerry Bold 9900 means an impromptu marshmallow roasting session or impressive event on the slopes can be recorded and shared instantaneously. Finding endless moments to record on your device? The 8GB on-board memory will help in that department.

Looking for a gift free of charge?

Owning a BlackBerry just got better. Until December 31, 2011, RIM is offering tons of premium apps worth a total value of more than $100. You’ll find them free of charge on BlackBerry App World.

Another great gift idea

Samsung Galaxy S II LTE smartphone to ship as early as next week

First LTE smartphone shipped in Canada

Rogers customer, Brian Javier, right, activates Canada's 1st LTE smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S II LTE, at Rogers Plus location in Toronto.

At Rogers we pride ourselves on bringing you the newest technologies first.

We were the first carrier in Canada to launch an LTE network. We’ve quickly expanded that network to become the first carrier to offer LTE in four of Canada’s largest cities. And we were the first Canadian carrier to sell an LTE stick and LTE tablet.

It’s this commitment to being first that has allowed us to secure a very limited number of Samsung Galaxy S II LTE smartphones that we’re shipping to a handful of customers on the Rogers Reservations System today.

While we wish we could get this device to everyone who has reserved the Samsung Galaxy S II LTE on the reservations system today, we’re thrilled to be able to deliver on our first-to-market commitment by shipping Canada’s first LTE smartphones.

We’re also excited to confirm that we’ll continue to fulfill orders for the device as early as next week and expect to have enough devices for everyone in the reservations system.

UPDATE (November 3, 2011, 4:26 p.m): We are pleased to confirm that the Samsung Galaxy S II LTE devices have arrived and we will begin shipping tomorrow to all customers on the Rogers Reservation System. Please note, as we are trying to get the devices to customers as quickly as possible, delivery status on the Rogers Reservation System will say “in progress” today and remain that way until Monday. The majority of devices will arrive next Monday with the potential for some to arrive as early as Saturday.

It’s back! And thinner than ever…the Motorola RAZR

Motorola Razor 2011 from Rogers

Whether you owned the hot pink or the silver one, the original Motorola RAZR was the thinnest and hottest mobile fashion accessory of the 2000s.

Just this afternoon, Motorola announced their newest, most impossibly thin device called the Motorola RAZR, which is coming exclusively to Rogers in time for the holidays!

With diamond-cut aluminum accents, the Motorola RAZR can display your photos in amazing quality on its 4.3” Super AMOLED advanced display.

As tough as nails

With its heavy-duty Kevlar fiber coating and tough Corning Gorilla Glass screen with splash-guard coating, you can drop it, scratch it, and toss it in your bag without any fear of damage.  Perfect for someone like me – I don’t know how many times a week I drop my phone!

Pics and files at your fingertips

Another really cool feature is that the RAZR can stream your music, pictures and files directly from your home or work computer – anytime, from anywhere!  So say you’ve just come back from that amazing European vacation and you’ve downloaded your pics from your camera onto your computer at home, but forgot to add them to your phone.  Have no fear!  With MotoCast, a free app from Motorola that’s already built in to the RAZR, you can stream content from your PC directly to your phone, wherever you happen to be.  Those vacation pics are now never left at home.

Be your own Spielberg

With the new RAZR, you can also watch movies on a screen that sports a wider range of colours than most LCD HD TVs. While on that European vacation, when you want to capture video of the Eiffel Tower, use the front-facing video camera and 8MP rear-facing camera with cinematic-quality 1080p HD video capture to create your own movies—and turn your life into art without breaking a sweat.

Did you have the original RAZR?  What do you think of the new Motorola RAZR?

Rogers Reservation System: iPhone 4S update

Many of you have been asking for an update about when you’ll get your iPhone 4S that you reserved through our Reservation System. Some of you have asked about how you’ll be notified, when your iPhone 4S  will arrive in store, and how we will manage inventory for this great new smartphone.

We are allocating inventory to the Reservation System.  We are excited to tell you that we have begun fulfilling reserved orders and we will continue to ship reserved orders as inventory becomes available from Apple.

When your device is ready to ship, you will receive an email from us with a link to track your shipment until it arrives at the store of your choice.  If you don’t get an email letting you know your device is ready this weekend, fear not, you’re still on the list. By being on our reservation system you don’t have to line up or look for stores that have an iPhone left.  Keep an eye on your email starting early next week. We’ll send you an update on your place in line.

Remember you can always check where you are in line and the status of your reservation by visiting rogers.com/myrogers.

We know that some of you may choose to go to a store to try to get a smartphone this weekend. That’s okay too, because your $40 reservation fee is totally refundable. All you have to do is cancel your reservation and we’ll give you back your $40.

We’ll continue to keep you updated.

UPDATE: (October 16, 2011, 5pm): We have now shipped thousands of devices and many of you will soon receive a notification that your device has been shipped. We continue to receive more inventory and have put extra staff in place so we can get the devices sent out as quickly as possible.  At this point stores are selling out. But since you have reserved a device you are guaranteed to get one without having to line up or phone to see if there are any available. To track the progress of your reservation you can log on to MyRogers.

This year, we’ve made it easier for customers to get the devices you want. Here’s what you need to know to get your hands on the Apple iPhone 4S at Rogers:

How can I reserve a device?

Our existing wireless customers have the opportunity to reserve their devices in advance, through our Rogers Reservation System.  Starting today, Rogers wireless customers can go to Rogers.com and log in to their MyRogers account to secure their place “in line” to own one of this year’s most anticipated devices.

A $40 (+ taxes) refundable reservation fee will be applied to hold the device. It will be shipped to the location of your choice and we’ll let you know when it arrives. For all the details, check out this recent post from RedBoard about the Rogers Reservation System.

How do I upgrade my existing device?

Earlier this year, we made it easier for all customers to upgrade to the latest device of their choice. Our new “early upgrade” program gives you the added freedom and flexibility to upgrade your device as early as six months into your existing contract term.

How can I check my eligibility for a device upgrade?

We will soon launch an online tool to help you calculate your hardware upgrade. Keep an eye on @RogersBuzz for details.

That’s all the information we have right now, but stay tuned to RedBoard and follow us on Twitter for the latest updates.

UPDATE (October 12, 2011, 4:30 p.m):  We’ve launched our online tool to help you calculate your hardware upgrade. This new early hardware upgrade program makes it possible to upgrade to a new device as early as six months into your current term.  Here are a couple of things you need to know:

  • In order to upgrade to the new iPhone 4S, you will need to purchase it with a new three-year agreement on eligible Voice and Data plans (or renew your current plan, if eligible).
  • All consumers who upgrade on an eligible three-year voice and data plan automatically qualify for a $50 mail-in rebate.  You can get your coupon in store through a rep or online at Rogers.com once you have processed your hardware upgrade.   The $50 mail-in rebate is in place for all existing, eligible customers upgrading to any device on three-year terms.
  • Mail your coupon in within 30 days of your upgrade and the rebate will appear on your Rogers invoice as a $50 credit.

To find out your eligibility, visit www.rogers.com/iPhone4S.

Remember, pricing, eligibility and offers are subject to change.
