In time for the long weekend, we’re sharing our gratitude for technology, looking at apps in the grocery aisle and announcing the latest LTE expansion. Plus we’re happy to share that we’ll be offering the BlackBerry Z30. Read all about it in this week’s edition of the Weekend Reading.
This week on RedBoard, we learned how technology helps us bridge the distance when loved ones don’t live nearby. And, honestly, there’s nothing like a holiday to make my family in Nova Scotia feel really, really far away. While phone calls, texts and Facebook photos aren’t a substitute for our annual tradition of making a bunch of apple pies, they do certainly go a long way in making us still feel like we’re part of each others’ lives. It’s also a great way to let them know that I’m thinking of them and miss them all year long. What technology helps you stay in touch with your family?
LTE lights up
Our blazing-fast LTE network continued to grow this week, as we added 15 new markets in Ontario, B.C., Alberta, P.E.I. and New Brunswick. Rogers is also the first carrier to bring LTE coverage to three markets in my home province of Nova Scotia, so residents of Antigonish, Fox Harbour and New Glasgow can now satisfy their need for speed.
We’re happy to announce Rogers will be adding the new BlackBerry Z30 to our roster of BlackBerry smartphones, which includes the Z10, Q10 and Q5. The BlackBerry Z30, which will be available later this month, has a five-inch touch-screen, faster processing speeds and longer battery life than previous models.
With multiple holiday dinners this weekend, I’ll definitely be among the droves pacing the grocery aisles, stocking up on pumpkin and searching for the perfect vegetarian main. Instead of hemming and hawing over what to buy, about three in 10 Internet users say they would like to use a mobile app to help them decide on supermarket purchases. The July 2013 survey from Ipsos Canada found interest in such an app increased even more amongst those aged 18 to 34, with 43 per cent saying they’d give it a try.
