Weekend Reading: LTE updates and Easter apps
In this week’s weekend reading, we summarize some recent LTE updates and tell you how you can get the jump on a happier Easter holiday with some awesome Easter themed apps.
LTE news
There was plenty of action on the LTE front this week so if you missed the big news, here’s what you need to know. On Monday, we went live with LTE in two new cities: Calgary and Halifax. This launch follows the recent launch of LTE in St. John’s and in the coming months, we’ll be bringing Canada’s fastest and largest LTE network to Edmonton. Stay tuned!
This week we also launched the new Sierra Wireless AirCard 763S LTE mobile hotspot that lets you create a password-protected hotspot in seconds for up to 10 Wi-Fi enabled devices. And finally, the HTC One X is now available to reserve or preorder. This is Canada’s first LTE smartphone with Beats Audio Integration and it is coming soon, exclusively at Rogers. What’s more, if you pre-order by April 30, you have a chance to win a trip for two to Toronto and VIP passes to the MMVA after party! Check out all the details here: http://www.rogers.com/htconex
Apps for Easter
A long weekend wouldn’t be complete without some appropriately-themed apps. After some digging around online, here’s a list of our favourites:
- Easter Bunny My Face (free on iTunes and Windows Phone marketplace): You know you’ve always wanted to see yourself as the Easter Bunny. Transform your face with a selection of bunny noses and ears and when you’re done, why not make that your new Twitter or Facebook profile picture for the weekend?
- Easter Bunny Tracker (.99 on iTunes): A fun app for kids, you can track the bunny as he makes his rounds this Easter
- Egg Dying 101 from Martha Stewart Living (.99 on iTunes): With a gallery of more than 100 egg designs, you may just find the inspiration you need to jazz up that festive Easter table centerpiece.
- Rocket Bunny (free on Google Play and iTunes): A fun game where you help a rocket-powered Easter Bunny deliver eggs
- Easter Egg Paint (free on Google Play or .99 on BlackBerry App World): Paint your own egg and send it to friends and family, or use it as your wallpaper.

Rogers on Facebook

Hi,
North Brampton is expanding and i ordered Lumia 900 as well .. currently i dont see any LTE Towers ( 10Mhz Towers ) above Boviard !!! :( .. Please add LTE Towers !!!!
How about expanding the service a little bit further north than Steeles avenue??? the GTA is an awful lot bigger than the LTE coverage shown on the website. I’m paying for the LTE on my iPad 3, would be nice if I could actually use it.
Hi BSpud,
Thanks for your feedback! We will keep expanding our LTE network and adding more cities this year.
Hello!
I tried to preorder the Sierra Wireless 763S. Couldn’t do it onine…
I tried to go into a store today to pick up the 763S…. it’s not available in the store!
How do I order the 763S?
Thanks!
Mark Rejhon
When is Rogers going to update there coverage in saskatchewan?
Hi Andrew,
We’re always working on improving and expanding our national footprint. We’ll update our coverage map as new cities are added.
With Saskatchewans growing and strong economy, does Rogers not find is feasable to upgrage and expand network coverage to rural areas on top of Major centers? It would be nice to see more 3g/4g coverage here in Saskatchewan from Rogers, and would love to see some LTE!
Hi Colin,
Thanks for sharing your feedback with us. We’re always working on expanding and improving our footprint in Saskatchewan and other provinces.
We’ll keep updating our network map as more areas are covered.
Hi,
How about a Rocket Hub style LTE device for households that require a wired solution?
Updates on when expected?
Thanks.
Hi Tyler,
We can’t comment on possible future products, services or features but that’s an interesting feedback.
Base on customer habits, wireless solution are definitely appreciated.
Ditto on the Rocket Hub – this is my home internet. I’d jump on this if the same introductory LTE pricing was available as for Rocket Stick/Mobile Hotspot. 10 GB for $52 still isn’t a ton of bandwidth, but it’s a whole lot better than the 5 GB I currently get for the same price.
Do you know approximately when it is going to launch in Edmonton?
Hi Jason,
We can’t comment on future plans until they officially launch but more cities are definitely coming this year.
