Rogers LTE network live in St. John’s: Nokia Lumia 900 and HTC One X coming soon

Nokia Lumia 900 from Rogers

Expanding to the east, the Rogers LTE network is now live in St. John’s making Rogers the first carrier to bring the fastest wireless speeds in Canada to Newfoundlanders. We’re now offering LTE to a total of 11 million Canadians and we’ll double our coverage this year with plans to expand to more than 25 cities in 2012, including Halifax and surrounding areas.

With Rogers LTE network, customers have access to speeds similar to broadband connections, making it easier to use mobile devices to download apps, stream HD videos and music or play on-line games, with virtually no delays or buffering.

In addition to expanding our network, we’re also expanding our leading lineup of LTE smartphones with two new exclusive LTE devices available this spring:  the Nokia Lumia 900 and the HTC One X.

Nokia Lumia 900

After winning best in show at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this year from CNET and a variety of prominent websites, the Nokia Lumia 900 marks a strong leap forward for Nokia it will be exclusively coming to Rogers as Canada’s first Windows Phone LTE smartphone.

The Nokia Lumia 900 is packed with a large 4.3-inch ClearBlack AMOLED touchscreen, 1.4 GHz Snapdragon processor and runs on the LTE network, offering an impressive option for new and loyal Windows smartphones users.  If you’re looking for a smartphone and camera in one, this device also features Nokia’s exclusive Carl Zeiss 8MP back-camera with F2.2 large aperture and 28mm wide angle lens for snapping high-quality images on-the-go. It also has a 1MP front facing camera for high-quality video calling.

HTC One X

Announced at Mobile World Congress yesterday, HTC One X will be the first smartphone in Canada designed with Beats Audio for an incredible audio experience. It  runs on Canada’s largest LTE network, comes packed with a dual-core 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, the latest Android 4.0 software (Ice Cream Sandwich), HTC Sense 4.0 and HTC’s amazing new camera experience.

We’re happy to bring these devices to Rogers customers first. Stay tuned to RedBoard for more information on both of these devices or check out more information about Rogers LTE network here.

  1. Will the white Lumia 900 shown at MWC be available on Rogers too?

  2. Do you have a release date for the Lumia 900 ?

  3. been waiting for the Lumia 900 to be released in Canada, and glad Rogers is carrying the device!

  4. Soooo happy the 900 is coming (I read it’s hitting in April)! I wrote Rogers when the 710 was released voicing my disappointment that the 900 wasn’t coming. I’ve already filled out the pre-order form on the Rogers website.

  5. Isn’t the HTC One is a quad-core not a dual-core as stated on here?

      HI AK,

Here are the HTC One’s tech specs on HTC’s website:
      http://www.htc.com/ca/products/htconex-rogers#tech-specs

      • Nicolas, thanks. I went back to their press release and apparently there will be 2 versions a quad-core and a dual-core. It appears the quad-core is not LTE.

Link to the press release and some info from the site:

        http://www.htc.com/ca/press/htc-one-series-unveiled/52

        “HTC One X
The HTC One X features a beautifully crafted polycarbonate unibody that has the ruggedness of metal but is super lightweight. With seamless construction, the unibody combines a unique high gloss ‘piano’ finish and a matte back. HTC One X is blazing fast with the new NVIDIA® Tegra 3 Mobile Processor for clear graphics, faster applications and longer battery life. It includes a 1.5GHz Super 4-PLUS-1™ quad-core with an integrated fifth Battery Saver Core and a high-performance 12-Core NVIDIA® GPU. The HTC One X also has an amazing 4.7-inch, 720p HD screen crafted from contoured Corning™ Gorilla Glass. HTC One X will also be available in select 4G LTE markets with a LTE-enabled Qualcomm Snapdragon S4™ processor with up to 1.5GHz dual-core CPU’s.”

      • Oh so Rogers will be grabbing the Qualcomm version. I was excited to read until I saw the specs. Did hope that it’s the Tegra 3.

    • Should also mention that the HTC One X (ATT/Rogers) variation uses the new dual-core S4 processor which is actually faster than the Tegra3 quad-core.

Quad-core is not currently compatible with LTE but even so, this is a nice upgrade, spec-wise.

Now… just waiting for pre-order to be come available as my contract is up…. Options, options, heh.

  6. I can’t wait to get one Lumia 900.

  7. I’ll definitely be picking up a Lumia 900. Your link doesn’t seem to go anywhere useful though…

  8. I’m very eager to get my hands on the Lumia 900. Can you tell us any more details about pricing (i’m an existing customer with an upgrade coming up soon). If you know any details about release dates it would be appreciated as well. Thank you!

  9. Will the Lumia 900 require an LTE data plan?

  10. Wah? Still no LTE in Edmonton??? ;)

      Hi Jason,

We’re always working on expanding and improving our services, including our LTE network.
Stay tuned, more cities will come in 2012!

  11. The page for the Lumia 900 seems to be empty. Here’s what I get https://twitter.com/#!/tewmgd/status/174510812474523648/photo/1/large

I tried on two computers(PC/Mac), 3 differents browsers.

Will there be a 32 Gb version of the One X? I really want it, but 16 Gb just isn’t enough.

    • RogersNicolas says: February 28th, 2012 a 6:42pm

      Hi Conrad,

Thanks for your feedback. We don’t comment releases before they may/may not launch but we’ll keep everyone posted.

  13. Hsiao-Kang Jao says: February 29th, 2012 a 7:46am

omg they are really taking their sweet time with this.
but I am glade we are getting closer to release, I have been waiting for sooooooooo long man.

  14. My contract is up today and I’d like to pre-order the HTC One X as my subsidized phone.
Is there any way I can do that?

    • Hi Chris,
You’ll be able to reserve to reserve it. However, you won’t be able to get it until the HTC One X is actually available.
We’ll share more details closer to launch. Stay tuned!

Will Rogers ever have full coverage/presence in Oakville, Ontario? Right now you are available only to the border of Mississauga/Oakville which is very frustrating for us that’s west of that!!! No LTE service for us.

    • RogersNicolas says: March 9th, 2012 a 9:36am

      Hi,

We’re always working on improving and expanding our network. More cities will be coming in 2012.

  16. Great… so Rogers will soon have the world’s best Windows Phone, yet your website still labels it as a “Windows Mobile” when looking at phones to buy. When will someone fix this so it says “Windows Phone” instead? Talk about poor marketing and website management.

    • RogersNicolas says: March 9th, 2012 a 9:12am

      Hi Andy,

Thanks for your feedback. We’ve already flagged this to our team.

      • I’m hoping I can finally walk into a Rogers Store and ask them if they have a Windows phone and they can tell me something other than, “We don’t even have a fake plastic one, want to see the new iPhone?”
        Step 2, change your website.

      • It is now a full 10 days later… the website still says Windows Mobile. Doesn’t look like you’re changing it any time soon. Bunch of empty promises. As usual.

    • I wish I read your comment before I added my own about the same issue. I can’t believe that it’s been almost 2 years and Rogers still has the wrong name, “Windows Mobile”, on their website instead of “Windows Phone”.

      • MattthieuGD says: March 9th, 2012 a 2:05pm

+1 ,It would be cool to see Rogers with a little more support for Windows Phone.

        • People actually care about Windows Phone? Weird.

          • If it was a Bada or Symbian phone, then I would agree with you. But this a new mobile platform from Microsoft that competes directly with iOS and Android, and in many instances it comes at the top. You should give it a try at your local Rogers store when you get a chance.

  17. I noticed that on Rogers website it lists the Nokia Lumia 710 and the Samsung Focus under “Windows Mobile”. Microsoft has moved away from that name last year when they created a brand new mobile platform from scratch, and that’s how “Windows Phone” was born.

Windows Phone is completely different than Windows Mobile. I think it’s time for Rogers to correct that mistake on their website and rename the category from “Windows Mobile” to “Windows Phone”.

  18. please allow for upgrades for existing Rogers customers from their iPhone4′s to the noikia 900! Please please please?

    • RogersNicolas says: March 13th, 2012 a 3:52pm

      Hi Steven,

You’d have to contact Customer Care to know the conditions that would apply to you regarding an early upgrade. You may contact us via Twitter @RogersHelps or Facebook.

      • thanks. tried and got a generic response of…upgrades are allowed between 18-30 months based on your phone and plan…

i was hoping that there might be some promo like when rogers offered existing iphone3/g customers to upgrade to iphone4 when it was released. Hoping there would be such a program for this great launch!

        S.

The Rogersbuzz twitter account was tweeting last week about pre-order available this week but I did’nt get any email even if I register on the website. Is the pre-order still planned for this week ?

  20. come on with at least a date and price! I’m looking to buy out of contract

    • RogersNicolas says: March 16th, 2012 a 12:50pm

      Hi Joey,

We’ll share these details soon regarding the 2 devices.

      • actually… an outright price is my biggest concern. which shouldn’t be a big deal saying.

I got the money burning a hole in my pocket but honestly… I think I’m just going to go buy a lumia 800 at telus.

        • RogersNicolas says: March 22nd, 2012 a 1:08pm

          Hi Joey,

Rest assured that we’re committed to offer the best devices at the best price.
The Lumia 900 will now launch soon. Stay tuned for more details!
