Rogers Family Plans: something to talk about
Our most recent Innovation Report shows us that Canadians technology users feel staying connected with friends and family is essential to their well-being. Great! We’re all connected through technology and our cell phones. But the next question is always, “how do I know if we’re on the right plan for how our family uses technology?”
The Rogers family plans provide options for all types of families and their wireless technology needs and a family doesn’t need to be living in the same house or even be related to get one of these plans. Here’s a few examples that might help you determine what plan is right for you:
We text all day long but don’t usually call each other – the Unlimited Family Plans are a great option for a family that loves to text. These plans include unlimited texting 24/7, as well as enough voice minute options to ensure you’re covered but also not paying for minutes you’re not using.
We talk and text each other like it’s going out of style – The Ultimate Unlimited Family Plans are great for families who like to do it all without limitations. Unlimited local calling, unlimited messaging, and unlimited Canada-wide Family Plan calling let’s you talk and text until you’re out of things to say without time boundaries or restrictions.
I can hear you all already. “Whoa, hold up Mel! Unlimited texting and local voice are great, but what about data?”
No worries my friends. Every family plan has data options. Does your whole family need data? If they do, you can opt for the voice and data family plan with 2GB of shared data and the option to add more for those heavy data users. If it’s only a few members on the plan that need data, you can include a data add-on option to any of the individual texting plans.
So this is all great I know, but I’m sure there are still questions out there about why it makes sense to move to a family plan. Here’s a few:
- A single bill makes payments a lot simpler
- The people on your family plan do not have to live within the same household (For example: children away at school)
- A family plan is great for any group of people that may/may not be ‘traditionally’ related (example: couples)
- When you activate one new phone on the family plan, you can get up to 4 additional phones at $0 (each with new activations on family plan on a 3-yr term)
- Starting April 10th there is an opportunity to receive a FREE Xbox 360® with Kinect™ when you activate 2 new smartphones on the family voice and data plan on a 3-yr term
WHAT? A free Xbox 360®with Kinect™?
That’s right. From April 10th – May 21st, new customers who activate two new smartphones on a family voice and data plan on a 3-yr term or existing customers who migrate to a family voice and data plan and activate a new smartphone on a 3-yr term may be eligible to receive a free Xbox 360® with Kinect™ with Rogers Anyplace TV, 1 month free Live Xbox Gold Membership and Kinect™ Adventures Game.
Already a Rogers family plan customer but want a free Xbox 360® with Kinect™? Existing family plan customers can also take advantage of this great offer by adding a new smartphone line to their existing family voice and data plan on a 3-yr term.
Interested in the offer, but don’t need a family plan? Consumers activating a new smartphone on a voice and data plan with a 3 year terms can purchase an Xbox 360® with Kinect™ for only $149.99.
What a great connected entertainment experience for the whole family: a great wireless plan that suits everyone’s needs, the latest devices, and a perfect reason to spend time together playing your favourite Xbox 360® with Kinect™ game.
Who’s the best at video games in your house?
UPDATE (May 2, 2013, 12:29 pm): Breakfast Television Toronto recently hosted BT Family Quarrel presented by the Rogers Family Plan. Two fun Canadian families competed for their chance to win the ultimate Family Plan prize pack. You can watch the trivia go down on Rogers Anyplace TV in part 1 here and part 2 here.

What is it with telcos favouring NEW customers over OLD? Talk about a slap in the face for those that have stuck with Rogers for 10+ years. We’ve been with Rogers since the TDMA days, before GPRS was even a gleam in your eyes, and yet we don’t get any benefits for being such a long-term customer.
Perhaps if you treated your EXISTING customers better, you’d keep them longer, and not have to worry so much about NEW customers.
It’s really sad when you have to threaten to leave before you get any perks. :(
Hey Freddie,
Existing customers are able to take advantage of this offer too. Check out the details at rogers.com/xbox.
No, you still have to activate 2 *NEW* phones. You can’t migrate two existing phones to a family plan. You can’t upgrade 2 phones. Basically, if you are an existing customer with existing phones on existing plans, you don’t get squat for deals, incentives, thank-yous, etc.
The only way for an existing, long-term, customer to get anything good/new/bonus-like out of Rogers is to call and threaten to leave. You shouldn’t have to call the retention department on a regular basis to get bonuses out of a 10-year-long relationship.
Hi Freddie,
Sorry you feel that way. Have you had a look at the offer details? The first thing you should see is “Existing customers”. Here’s the link that Melanie gave you: http://www.rogers.com/xbox
Yeah, and if you read through that page, read through the page about existing customers, read through the smaller print underneath the Flash crap, you still see “activate two NEW phones” everywhere. Or, “add additional lines”.
IOW, you can’t be an existing customer with 2 phone lines, already on a family plan, and get access to this promotion.
Where are the customer loyalty rewards programs? Where’s the customer loyalty recognition programs? Where’s the “we actually give a damn about keeping our customers around for years and years” mentality?
It’s actually better to a lousy customer, and hop between the competitors, switching cell providers every 3 months; switching Internet providers every 3 months; switching TV providers every 3 months. And you know what: that actually COSTS the providers extra money with all the extra work and incentives.
Perhaps if you spent some of that money on “customer rewards programs”, where those who stay for 1-year, 5-years, 10-years get all the perks, you’d keep customers longer, have happier customers, and ACTUALLY SAVE MONEY!
Imagine that: customer service leading to customer loyalty leading to company savings. I know, and archaic concept from the 20th century.
2 new voice and data. So freddie is upset because he already has 2 voice and data phones? kinda like taking out a car on 2% financing and the new customers getting it at 0%. Not to mention there is no discounts available for new customers? So maybe you dont have it so rough after all. Who knows though. only you do ;)
Otherwise if you have voice only, then you can upgrade to smartphones and get th xbox offer for existing customers.
Not even close.
What I’m upset about is that there is no longer any incentive to remain a long-term, loyal customer of Rogers (or any company).
It used to be, that the most loyal customers, those who stayed with a company the longest, got all the perks. It actually made sense to stick with one company long-term.
Now, companies only care about new customers. Doesn’t matter that they are losing customers every month because their customer service sucks and they don’t do anything to engender loyalty in their customers. All that matters is getting those new customers through the door.
It doesn’t make financial sense, to me, to pander to the new customers. All it does is cost the company money, and creates a revolving-door society, where it’s actually better to be a BAD CUSTOMER.
That’s what I’m annoyed by. There are no loyalty programs anymore. There are no customer appreciation programs anymore. There are no incentives to actually STAY with a company more than 3 months. Yet there are lots of incentives to be a bad customer and company-hop every 3 months to get all the “new customer incentive” freebies.
anyone crazy enough to sign up for two phones with rogers, need to have there head examined by a professional, look at the cost of this “free” xbox over 3 yrs, the UUFP, is 135$for the 2 lines and doesn’t include standard features like caller id and voice mail. 135 x 36months is $4896, not including the activation fees, the grrf, and taxes, which would put it probably in the range of 5700$ over the term of 36 months. wow were do i sign.. lol.. why not take the millions your spending on these xboxs rogers, and i don’t know do something a little more innovative with it, but your gonna coin it as another rogers first, yes it is another rogers first, rogers once again is desperate to get Canadians to stop fleeing to lower cost alternative providers, so were going to throw an xbox at them and see if there dumb enough to take the bait.. thank you rogers for another first
Such an uneducated argument.
Rogers had a free PS3 promotion last year that was incredibly successful. Promotions change from time to time with all carriers – I much rather prefer being with a larger telcorp than one of these new ones that really aren’t all they’re cracked up to be.
I think someone would have to be very dumb to take a smaller company, especially when a couple of them have already threatened to leave Canada due to costs. Some of these companies have been saying they’re going to expand for over a year now – nothing yet. My sister is with a “smaller company” and couldn’t stop with the list of negative things about them.
I’m not even with Rogers and your argument made me laugh – yeah, let’s call people stupid and mental because of a choice – people like you are the reason there is war in the world.
@mike…true.
My wife and I are eligible for hardware upgrades and plan on gettinga couple nokia lumia 900s. We currentlyarent on family plan if we upgraded phones and converted to a family plan would we be eligible for the xbox?
Hi Mike,
Existing customers who are currently on a single line who migrates to a Couples & Family Voice and Data plan and activate a new smartphone line on a 3 year plan are eligible for this promotion.
Don’t worry many of us that signed up for this deal last year have never received our playstations. Which the Rogers rep don’t bother to comment on or offer to fix. :(
