The Thanksgiving weekend is upon us. Whether you’re travelling, spending time with family, eating turkey, or all of the above, you’ll probably find yourself with some down time this weekend. While you’re recovering from your turkey induced coma, sit back, relax, and enjoy this week’s edition of Weekend Reading.
Remembering Steve Jobs
In light of the anniversary of Steve Job’s death, many blogs and online publications wrote article commemorating his life. Wired had an interesting perspective saying that even if you’re not talking about Jobs directly, he’s still in our conversations – every time we talk about things like mobile, apps and hardware design, we’re talking about Steve Jobs. Check out the whole post here.
There’s a smartphone in my magazine!
Entertainment Weekly magazine had a 2.3 inch LCD screen inside its pages that ran live video and tweets. Crazy, right? What’s more, the issue only cost $3.95. This post in Read Write Web has all the details about the print magazine video ad, including a video where author Adam Popescu dissects the magazine to show how it was done. Apparently this is not the first time a video ad has been inserted within a print magazine. Marie Claire magazine in the UK was the first to pull this off. This older post from Mashable has all the details.
Rogers LTE: more network, more phones
Earlier this week, we announced that we’ve completed the rollout of LTE in 18 new Canadian markets. That means that Rogers LTE now reaches nearly 60% of all Canadians! To see a list of all new cities added, check out recent RedBoard post.
Also this week, we announced that we’ll be adding yet another LTE phone to our lineup: The Nokia Lumia 920. This smartphone, coming exclusively to Rogers this November, features Windows 8 and is preloaded with familiar apps such as Windows Live Messenger, Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer. Check out this post from Digital Home or this one from Mobile Syrup for a few more details about the device.
On behalf of everyone at Rogers, we wish you and your family a safe and happy Thanksgiving weekend!
