    Just wondering.. For enhanced box customers are we still gonna receive the enhanced guide firmware update?

      The new interactive programming guide is only available on the NextBox HDPVR (Cisco 8642 HDPVR) and NextBox HD Terminal (Cisco 4642 HD digital set-top box).

      [edit] To provide additional info, the enhanced box is the NextBox and you can receive the new interactive programming guide by calling Rogers and requesting that it be put onto your account. There is no charge for this.

    Why are there so many limitations on these services?
    Why only an Ipad or a Samsung tablet? WHy arn’t these apps avaialble across the broad spectrum of Android apps? Why are the devices so expensive? this is NOT new technology — Tivo has had these functions, in HD no less, for 3 years — and at a fraction of the cost. You need to start broadening your scope.

    HOW MANY PROGRAMS CAN YOU RECORD WHILE WATCHING A PROGRAM – AS IN THE BELL PVRS???

      I answered you earlier below, but I thought I’d further clarify my response. Basically, on each NextBox PVR you can Record up to 2 programs or watch 1 live TV program and record another at once. You watch live TV (even HD) on all your TVs at once, there is no limitation. For Whole Home PVR, you can have up to 2 NextBox PVRs and up to 8 TVs (connected to NextBox equipment) so you can record up to 4 programs at once, watch recorded programming in up to 8 rooms at once and watch live TV on 8 TVs at once (even HD).

    All we need now is another Tablet promotion and I may actually switch cable from Bell to Rogers. Can not stand the current guide on Rogers but this upgrade sounds promising. Then talk the wife into HDTV in the bedroom and whole home PVR would be amazing.

    Whole home PVR is cool, I like the idea of continuing my show while I move around the house… You mentioned a tablet, thought I’d let you know that our Diamond NextBox 2.0 package comes with a Samsung Galaxy tablet : )

      I just found that promotion but it is a bit too much for my budget. But the new guide is what will sell me. Also PVR function. With Bell I can record all episodes, new episodes, or weekly timing of the program I like. With my friends current Rogers PVR it seems they can only really do one episode at a time and have to set recordings every day. Looks like this upgrade is more like what I am used to.

      I see these packages include High Speed Internet. I am still on a promotion for my Internet with Rogers (Express Internet). Can I still order nextbox and get a promotion?

        Hey Todd- With the NextBox PVR (and the older Rogers 8300 HD PVR), you can record series and specify whether or not you wish to record new programs only or all . You don’t have to record single programs, but you can also do this if you wish.

    So this means I need to go exchange my pvr? I just got it last month. I upgraded from the old explorer 8300 to the new Cisco pvr. Or am I just gonna get a firmware upgrade to take advantage of this feature? I got two more Cisco HD receivers at home as well.

    How does the home pvr work? Can I tape one show, watch another. While someone in diff room tapes another and watches something else taped? And a child in another room watch a taped show? In other words what are the limits of the home pvr?

      Hey Brian, I originally replied to you below, but I thought I should further clarify…

      Whole Home PVR service supports up to 2 NextBox PVRs and up to 8 TVs (connected to NextBox PVRs/HD Terminals) so at most you can record up to 4 programs at once (they can all be HD), watch recorded programming in up to 8 rooms at once (HD or SD) and watch live TV on 8 TVs at once (even HD). Currently, you can set a recording on your NextBox PVR, watch (and/or delete it when you’re done watching) from any NextBox connected TV attached to your Whole Home PVR service. You can start watching a recorded program in one room, stop it, then resume watching from the same spot from another NextBox connected TV. And….coming soon, you’ll be able to set a recording from any NextBox connected TV attached to your Whole Home PVR service.

      Hope I was able to provide more info on this!

    Hey Jag- the TV call display and remote tv manager does not work on Cisco boxes, (not currently, but it’s in the works!) all other boxes get call display, and the 8300 series works with remote tv manager.

    Hey Andrew- you can get it today by calling in (1.800.Rogers1) and requesting to opt into the new guide. We’re working on remote tv- should be soon!

    Hey Mike- You can get the new guide now, just call to opt in, we made it opt in for the people who wished to stay on with our legacy guide.

    Hey Helen, watching TV on the additional terminals will not affect your internet usage, it’s not related.

    Hey Todd-There are two options available to you: 1) you can order NextBox TV as a standalone and keep your current internet offer or 2) switch to one of the bundled NextBox 2.0 packages which already include high speed Internet at a discounted rate; in which case you will have to forfeit your current offer discount.

    Hey Brian & MHalpern- with one PVR you can record up to 2 shows while watching a 3rd recording, from any room. With 2 PVRS you can record up to 4 shows while watching another recording, again in any room.

    Hey Benjamin- you’re right, you have to opt in, just call 1.800.Rogers1 to get the new guide.

      Kaili,

      You need to educate the tech support guys that deal with Nextbox 2.0. I have the service and have 2 HDPVR’s and 2 HD receivers. Only one of the HD receivers can see either of the HDPVR’s. Cabling was done correctly, in fact the installer even came back at HIS cost to confirm everything was fine. I can swap which cable the two HD receivers are plugged into and the issue follows the receiver, hence not a cabling issue.
      Once I called support after numerous reloads, factory resets and various other tests I was informed that you CANNOT have two HDPVR’s in the setup. I explained that I had one HD receiver that can see and playback content from BOTH HDPVR’s, as soon as I said that silence on the phone. Apparently I stumped them. You can even organize your recordings by PVR, if you can only have one why even have that option?
      Installed Whole home PVR on March 5th, I even cancelled Bell TV for this and switched to you. Yet 7 business days later I still only have one working HD receiver.
      Not very impressed, especially when tech support has no idea how to fix, apparently it was sent to engineer’s and I would receive a call within 24 – 48 hours, that was 3 days ago.
      The only bright spot out of this whole scenario for me was the installer knew his stuff, no BS the guy knew his stuff inside and out.
      .
      As a side note, I think it is appalling that you only pay the installers PER JOB, yet make them wait on hold for a CSR to do their back end thing, TWICE for almost an hour each time. That tech is not getting paid for those two hours

        I have the whole home pvr too. I have 1 PVR and 2 HD boxes. When the tech came he set it up and it worked fine but I added a box since then and the box cannot see my PVR. I have called several times and they’ve reset my boxes etc. still doesn’t work. Did you get all your boxes working? What was the issue?

    WAAYYY too expensive for this technology. Just insane. I have two PRV boxes in my home but I just want one box where I can share programs between the two TV’s. $180/month is just insanity for this, especially if it eats at your monthly limit cap. Rogers should at least give you some kind of deal that eliminates the monthly cap if you’re renting this, I already go over my 100gig limit every month without this.

    Thanks for the information RogersKaili. I had the same question as some of the other readers; if I needed new hardware or if an upgrade would be delivered to my Cisco 8642HD PVR. I took your advice and called 1-888-ROGERS-1 and spoke with Jessica in Customer Service. She made some changes on her end and I’m now just waiting for the software update to be pushed through. I was told it could take up to 48-hours.

    Seems like my experience was better than some of the other commenters. Fingers crossed the upgrade goes through smoothly!

    I’m reading that you can’t manage the PVR from the client boxes, is that true? Set recordings, delete recordings from client boxes?

      You can delete recordings from the client boxes. You can only set a recording from you PVR currently, but in our next update, coming soon, you’ll be able to set a recording from all NextBox HD PVRs and HD Terminals (clients) in your Whole Home PVR network.

    I just got the update the other night. I like the whole home PVR, I like that you can set something to be saved until space is needed. That is really all that is good.

    First and most importantly the new software is SLOW!!!! A second or two delay on every button push it is awful.

    The list option is a good idea but it again is slow and hard to navigate through. My biggest issue with it is that it always seems to show a channel in the background (there is no blank guide screen by default). Therefore if you are watching a show on that you have recorded and you are recording two shows if your show finishes it wants you to stop recording one of your shows unless you happen to be on one of the channels you are recording…

    Also after you delete a show (which again IS SLOW!!) it pops up with a confirmation that the show was deleted…. You then have to hit ok. Why bother with this? It serves no purpose, the show is deleted. This adds an annoying step to a process that takes almost three times longer then normal.

    Also, good we fix the number of times that PVRs freeze and crash when trying to watch content on rogers on demand!

    Can we fix this? Its driving my family crazy.

    Called in like Kaili suggested and the CSR updated my account so I could get the software update. FYI you may need to unplug your device to force the update. Mine took 5 minutes to update, looks a 1000 times better.

    Hey Matt – have you read what the plan offers? You could eliminate one of your PVR’s and get a way better internet package (250gb) that is discounted. In all fairness the offer ($180/mo) seems pretty reasonable especially with the free tablet offer. And before you ask, no I don’t work for Rogers. If you are going to comment on something then you should at least take the time to get it right.

      Bear in mind that the $181.20 monthly price is only for the first six months. After that, the price jumps to $223.53 a month. (And you’re locked in for a minimum of 18 more months.)

      Oh, and Rogers reserves the right to increase prices between the 6-month discounted portion and the 18-month regular portion of your contract.

      You also pay $49.99 for installation and $14.95 for “activation”.

    Hi RogersKaili a question for you. A little off topic but still related to the new offerings. Will there be a new remote TV manager for the iPhone and iPad that works with the new Cisco HDPVR’s and HD set top boxes? I recently downloaded the iPhone app only to find out that it only works with the older 8300 boxes. With all the new offerings one would assume that an app (iPhone/iPad/android) would be released as well. Thanks in advance.

    Our PVR has just been upgraded to the new Guide. Something doesn’t make sense. Under the old guide, I could set up taping for a series – ONLY if it was first run on the station. I can’t find out how to do that on the new Guide, so now, all episodes of a show will be taped, even if it is a repeat. Any thoughts?

      This is a glaring oversight if they do not fix this and other major issues. Yes the UI looks a lot better but is painfully slow (as others have pointed out) which makes it very frustrating to use. Not too mention that everyone in my family is now complaining and telling me to switch it back.

      Hi Gary,

      You can still do this with series recordings. To do this, select any future program (that has not started yet) and press select or record. Select Record series from the menu, then select New episodes only (Episodes in menu). It sounds like you left the default setting, All Episodes, when you first set the series recording. To change the option for existing series recordings, go to Scheduled Recordings by selecting Menu, Recorded TV and Scheduled Recordings or by pressing the LIST key on your remote twice. Next, select the recorded series you wish to modify – there is likely more than one episode recorded, simply select the folder for the series, select the first episode in the list, select Modify series, select New episodes only (beside Episodes in the menu) and select Save (before exiting the menu).

      To set New episodes only as your default setting for series recordings, simply press Settings on your remote, select PVR Settings, select Default Series Settings, and the change Episodes to New Episodes only – from this menu you can change all your Default Series Settings including Time (timeslot), Day (of the week), Save Until, Lock (parental controls), Start (time buffer before), Stop (time buffer after).

      Note, if you press record on a program that is currently being viewed, the program will just record and won’t give you the option to set series settings. You may set these next by navigating to Scheduled Recordings using the steps above, select the program (currently recording) select Record series, select New episodes only and then Save.

    Is there a site where I can see instructions/details of the new guide? And/or a site to request changes? I got the new guide pushed to me as I am having whole home pvr installed tomorrow, but there no longer seems to be a slow-motion feature & when scanning channels the guide only goes up/down by pages rather than 1 channel at a time.

      Our online documentation will be coming very soon and we’ll update you as soon as it has been published on Rogers.com. In the meantime, I’ll try to answer your questions.

      There is no slow motion feature currently on the PVR. To channel up and down by channel as opposed to by page when on the guide, try using the arrow keys on your remote. There is a known defect with the remotes that we are fixing with the channel +/- acting the same as the page +/-, within the guide, however when you are viewing a channel and you use channel+/- it only goes up and down one channel at a time.

    It appears that the new guide has gotten rid of several functions including: slow-motion (by pressing the play button twice), advancing one frame at a time (by pressing pause then fast forward), skipping forward or back by 15 minutes (using the page+ or page – buttons) and skip to end (in the pvr menu).
    Is there a way to get any of these to work, specifically the skip ahead functions? If I want to check it a show was cut off at the end I don’t really want to have to fast forward through the whole show.

      Hi Matt,

      Unfortunately some functions like PVR chaptering (skip forward and back in 15 minute increments) and slow motion were not available in the first release of this software, but we anticipate adding these back into the guide over time in future releases. To solve your immediate problem and ensure the end of your program is not cut off, you can add a buffer at the end of your recording by navigating to Scheduled Recordings by pressing LIST twice on your remote, selecting the recording, selecting Modify this recording or Modify series, selecting the amount of time you wish to add beside Stop (5 mins, 15 mins, 30 mins, 1 hour, etc) and selecting Save.

      To change default settings for your series and single program recordings, press settings, select PVR Settings and adjust Stop (time) for Default Series Settings and Default Recording Settings that way you won’t have to adjust this setting each time you setup new recordings.

        Every night at 2am my PVR shuts off for 15 minutes to install new software. EVERY NIGHT for the last 2 weeks. Also, if I’m in the middle of watching something PVR’d then the unit does not remember where in the program it shut off, so when it finally comes back on line I have to FF through the show from the beginning.

        How long is this going to go on for? And, is there a way to set another default time for when the pvr will install new software? I can’t be the only person watching TV at 2am.

        Also, any idea when the slow-motion function might be brought back? I use that function a fair bit (primarily while watching sports) and I’m pretty disappointed that it was removed from this UI.

    I have the new NextBox but am having a very hard time understanding how to use the new guide (it is NOT intuitive) let alone how to use with my pvr in the other room. Is there a user manual or instructions anywhere??? The documentation with the box did not come with any info on the new look and feel – it is very generic. The new box might offer more razzle dazzle features but, it is only good if you know how to use them. Also,the text font size of the new guide is extremely small and hard to read – this must be changed.

Not sure I understand your confusion about Whole Home PVR. Have you had Whole Home PVR service installed? If so, your technician would demonstrate how to use this feature. It is very simple to use though, just press LIST from any NextBox Terminal or PVR associated to your Whole Home PVR service and a list of programs will display By Date, By Title, By Channel or By PVR. Select the program you wish and select Play from start or Resume playing (if you have already watched part of the program and wish to resume from the spot you stopped watching it previously). You can also use the same trick functions (Fast Forward, Rewind, Pause) and Stop buttons on your remote that you can while watching any recording. These are the same steps you take to watch a recording from your PVR with the old and new guide.

      In the meantime, we’ll send you an email to look into your display issue.

    The “Nextbox” is already outdated. Take a look at the upcoming DragonTV enabled TV sets and AppleTV sets… that’s where the future is all for less than 180.00 per month!

      DragonTV isn’t even out yet (I know you said upcoming) and AppleTV is completely different in that you cannot watch live TV so I am not sure what the comparison is. Also you could easily spend 180.00 a month with ATV if you watch a lot of movies or TV show episodes not too mention the cost of increased use of your bandwidth.

      I love my ATV but it is no substitute for cable at this point. And as for DragonTV do you really want to be talking to your TV?

    Every Nextbox 2.0 package (including the “build your own” package) includes a “NextBox 2.0 HD Terminal rental”.
    Is this a necessary part of the package?
    Can I not get a package without this rental cable box?
    If I get one of these packages, am I contractually obligated to continue renting it for two years?
    Can one even chose to buy this second cable box (since 24 month rental is pretty close to the purchase price)?

    24 months at $13.14/mo is $315.36… That kills the $253.98 savings from the PVR and the 6 month HD VIP package discount.

    I have only one TV… am I the only one???

        No, they are intended for Whole Home by virtue of the inclusion of the Nextbox AND a secondary terminal, along with a tech coming to your house to install the necessary filters.

        If you aren’t interested in that, these packages are not for you… and unfortunately it appears that’s the only way to take advantage of a free extender and tablet.

        It’s not as though these packages are the only way to get digital cable from Rogers though. You just don’t want/need the package deal.

        Again… you are just restating my point. The fact that these packages are ” intended for Whole Home” is my gripe.

        Obviously I know that there are other ways to get digital cable… But with these bundles is the only way to get $150 off the purchase of the “Nextbox 2.0″, the 6 mo discount on HD VIP channel pack (the price of which just seemed to have increased), the free extender, and the free tablet (which I wouldn’t get anyway). Forcing you to rent (can’t purchase) a second box – which over 2 years is about the same as the purchase price, which many will continue to rent –
        is just a way to recoup the discounts given. Hence my original complaint.

        I happen to want to upgrade my internet and my 8300 PVR isn’t working very well any more – time buy a new one. This is disappointing. That’s all. Moving on.

    I had this installed on Tuesday, and the tech was unable to get the receiver to pair with the PVR. The only solution he could come up with was file a ticket. As of today, nothing has changed; I still can’t access shows recorded on my PVR from the receiver. Called Tech Support, and the only option they had was to schedule another tech to come out to my place. Which is occurring tomorrow.

      I watched my installation quite closely, and the tech didn’t do anything special to configure the boxes to see each other (except maybe rebooting them each a few times)… So the network seems dependant on where and how he installed the filters in your house, and possibly on the service being switched on at Rogers.

      Just a couple of thoughts… can you see the icon of a little house on the front of both boxes? That was the first step to making sure they were communicating. If not, there’s definitely a problem.

      If the “house” is there, then what we had to do was unplug both boxes, plug in the PVR, let it completely load (including the long load of the guide), then do the same with the regular digital box.

    The first tech didn’t check to ensure that there was a straight line running between PVR and HD Box; my modem was placed right between the two. Moving the modem to a different branch in the split solved the problem immediately.

    It seems evident, once again, that Rogers has dropped the ball completely with the “new” PVRs. Firstly, this type of technology is not at all new. Rogers is years out of date and still they don’t have a working version. To add insult to injury, they insist that it’s new and try desperately to sell it at a premium.

    Those of us that invested in the abortive effort that was the 8642 feel betrayed that the guide update is now only available by calling Customer Service and when it downloads it cripples the appliance. It is so slow as to be unusable. Rogers seems to be determined that the Cisco box is the way of the future but many years of market research says that it is the worst possible combination of inadequate hardware and poor software design.

    I doubt Rogers will see the light but if they issued a cable card that could be put into a TiVo 3 then they could resell those and have many many happy customers. I am now so disappointed with the continuing series of blunders that I have decided to go to Bell. At least they have decent PVR. Rogers, you need to wake up and smell the coffee or you will lose more and customers.

    I used the website to submit my request for the firmware upgrade. It took three business days to get pushed to my box (last night around 10pm). I really like the look, much more modern and displays more information on the screen. Now we just need the call display and remote manager…

    I just ordered the Diamond package for the Nextbox. How many gb is the Samsung Galaxy Tablet that come with it? Also I use the remote tv manager app on my iPhone, will I still be able to set recordings and view recordings on my pvr from my phone? Also how long until the caller id on the pvr is working like it is on my current one??

    Be careful of what you wish for. I asked for the upgraded and it toasted my box! Call tech support 3 times, they noted they were having a ‘known issue’, something with a problem with networking to the next version.

    In they had to revert my box to the old guide and completely reset my PVR, LOST ALL MY RECORDINGS!!!

    We ordered the whole home PVR and after 4 days of problems the techs finally got it to work, then we looked at the guide that is slow and blocks the entire picture. There is a way to change that but it still cuts of the picture. Some of the features that were nice have been taken out like the brows by feature and the pvr feature tens to not record shows that I set up, I just took that thing back and got the old box back…. maybe when rogers fixes that crappy new box I will get the upgraded version but until then I will stick with the old reliable box.

    Had the new IPG for 3 days. Kept on freezing multiple times per day. Less flexibility than the old IPG. “downgraded” to the old IPG

    Wish Rogers would beta test te service and transfer features to upgrades. The IPG looks sleek but the issues make the older Software look better.

    Bell’s IPG is faster an has a higher drive for HD recoding (100 vs 20 for Rogers). Really wish Rogers can offer similar products and services that are fully tested before they are introduced to customers.

    Watched a show on ROD last night using the new Enhanced Guide and it wouldn’t let me Fast Forward any part of it?? Kept coming up with an error something about ‘Tricks’ aren’t enabled during playback. I hope this is just an isolated incident…

      This is normal if you are watching ROD television programs and has been for a long time. If you were watching a movie then you should have full FF, RR and Pause controls.

      The Next Box is great! It basically just a newer version of the 8300 that is slowly being phased out. You only get the tablet if you sign up for the most expensive package, not really worth it in my mind considering you can get a Samsung Galaxy Tablet fairly reasonably at Best Buy or Future Shop.

    I have had nothing but problems since the software upgrade on both of my Cisco HD PVRs. This is ridiculous. I pay for services from you that I cannot use. The best suggestion support had was to revert me back to the old guide and lose ALL of my recordings. NOT COOL. This software should be labeled as a Beta and people should be told to install at their own risk. No where did it say that I would get constant errors that I cannot record because my PVR is almost full… it is 37.5% full, and it would not allow a programmed 30min HD show to record. No one knows what is causing this problem, so basically I have no PVR function for HD recordings.

    Also you lose your ability to surf through your favorite channels, you only get a guide.

    You lose the ability to set a Sleep timer, which is basic functionality on just about all technology. Are we not supposed to be conserving power? So not when I fall asleep my PVR has to stay on all night? Ridiculous.

    There is NO manual to tell you how to do anything, anywhere that I can find. Everything is hidden, and the response time is SLOW. SLOW beyond belief.

    I would go back to the old guide in a second if it didn’t mean I would lose EVERYTHING from both of my units.

    Stupidity. and no one has answers.

      And last night it decided that 60% of the drive was not enough for a 30min SD Show so it deleted everything that was recorded on Tuesday and Wednesday.

      Still NO help from anyone at Rogers. I think I’m going to just take all of my equipment back and head upstairs to the Bell store and switch.

    SOOO SLOW! It’s unbelievable how slow everything is. I press buttons 2 or 3 times sometimes before I get a response and then it registers as 2 or 3 presses so I end up somewhere I didn’t intend to be. I’ve never been so disappointed with an upgrade. It’s so frustrating that I’m going to check out Bell’s system to see if it’s worth switching.

        But it doesn’t actually work as per their website yet. Guide is still in beta mode. VERY slow. PVR randomly deletes show. I have had this system installed for 2 weeks now and one of my receivers is STILL not working. Called 4 days ago and tech was supposed to call me back within 24-48 hours so far nothing. I would hold off for a few more months. It’s still beta status, believe me.

    Our guide was switched to the new “Nextbox 2.0″ and ever since then we loose all channels at times, the digital box switches off on its own and just switching channels will cause loss of channels…..we have to reboot almost on a daily basis and on top of that the print is so small its hard to read it… I had to go right up to the tv screen to see the little “exit” , “search” , etc icons… its extremely frustrating, i do not like it…. AND DON’T TELL ME ITS MY INCOMING CABLE, thats the only answer we are given, not just in this instance but for years, its always about the incoming cable…. thats not it, its the service. I am seriously considering switching cable provider…. its gotten to the point where we just don’t enjoy watching tv anymore!!!!!

    Hey “rogersnicolas” looks like you completely ignored my comment … when I called customer service a few days ago about my problems, she had no idea what I was talking about and of course didn’t hear a word I said either, for example, I told her I had to reboot all three terminals 3 times before I called, she started to tell me that I should reboot the terminals! What?! I guess you have no response to my comment either …. no help here either!!!!!!!!! Thanks!!

    I live the live tv app for my tablet. Seems kinda silly they don’t make all Rogers owned channels available. Would be sweet to watch Sportsnet or FX. Sitting in my back yard watching a Jays game on my tablet would be ideal.

    Rogers, PLEASE get it together and make TV Call Display work with the new Nextbox system. Why do you roll out new products and software updates before they do what they’re supposed to do? I spoke with a CSR before upgrading to this new setup and this person guaranteed that the TV Call Display would work perfectly. Also, all Rogers advertising and information about the TV Call Display claims that all you need to do is subscribe to cable and home phone. I’ve been lied to and mislead.

    How come I PVR a TV show and I go to watch it 2 hours later it is not there. The next day the recording will show up.. This has happened several times now. How do i fix the problem. Also I was watching a series on DEMAND and there were many seasons. I went to watch the series and there was only 3 episode????? What up with this!!!!!
