It’s back! And thinner than ever…the Motorola RAZR

Motorola Razor 2011 from Rogers

Whether you owned the hot pink or the silver one, the original Motorola RAZR was the thinnest and hottest mobile fashion accessory of the 2000s.

Just this afternoon, Motorola announced their newest, most impossibly thin device called the Motorola RAZR, which is coming exclusively to Rogers in time for the holidays!

With diamond-cut aluminum accents, the Motorola RAZR can display your photos in amazing quality on its 4.3” Super AMOLED advanced display.

As tough as nails

With its heavy-duty Kevlar fiber coating and tough Corning Gorilla Glass screen with splash-guard coating, you can drop it, scratch it, and toss it in your bag without any fear of damage.  Perfect for someone like me – I don’t know how many times a week I drop my phone!

Pics and files at your fingertips

Another really cool feature is that the RAZR can stream your music, pictures and files directly from your home or work computer – anytime, from anywhere!  So say you’ve just come back from that amazing European vacation and you’ve downloaded your pics from your camera onto your computer at home, but forgot to add them to your phone.  Have no fear!  With MotoCast, a free app from Motorola that’s already built in to the RAZR, you can stream content from your PC directly to your phone, wherever you happen to be.  Those vacation pics are now never left at home.

Be your own Spielberg

With the new RAZR, you can also watch movies on a screen that sports a wider range of colours than most LCD HD TVs. While on that European vacation, when you want to capture video of the Eiffel Tower, use the front-facing video camera and 8MP rear-facing camera with cinematic-quality 1080p HD video capture to create your own movies—and turn your life into art without breaking a sweat.

Did you have the original RAZR?  What do you think of the new Motorola RAZR?

  1. Sadly, unlike the US model, the RAZR is NOT LTE in Canada.

  2. I like my orig razor when it came out, this looks like a excellent phone, will be interested to see how it stacks up to the SII

  3. Locked bootloader = no sale.

    Thanks.

  4. On sale ‘in time for the holidays’ sounds like mid-December to me.

Not a surprise really, as this phone was developed for Verizon stateside. They’ve targeted an early November release, FYI. Rogers will have to take a number as per usual.

Oh well…we’ll get it eventually, although the fact that it’s not going to be LTE compatible for some strange reason is definitely a downer.

LTE network, no LTE devices….strange business strategy indeed.

  5. Wow! Finaly you guys were FAST to release a new device.
Too bad its not a LTE device, but thats ok. You are forgiven! :)

  6. “…diamond cut aluminum accents….”. Seriously? For once in your life, could you please provide some useful information?

When? (“in time for the holidays” is unhelpful) How much? LTE? ICS or Gingerbread?

  7. I’d consider this over the SII. I’m sure the Prime will not come until Q3 2012 so it looks like this is my next phone. It would be in the running even if those two phones were available before it.

Now, there is the little problem of the phone being announced and the 6 months waiting for the release…but at least this one SOUNDS hopeful…

Hey Dan, the phone will launch well before six months – the holidays aren’t that far away. Sit tight – we’ll update when we have more news.

  8. I am actually glad that this device is not LTE. the LTE coverage right now in Canada is not that great and is quite limited. I am out of the coverage area, so if this were LTE i would be unable to get this phone :( want!

  9. 1. No NFC
    2. No LTE
    3. No HD
    4. Locked Bootloader

    5. Profit?

Nice phone but about 10 hours to late. With the Galaxy Nexus being revealed last night any word if Rogers will be getting that in it’s lineup before 2012? Thanks.

We can’t comment on devices that may/may not launch in the future. We’ll be sure to update when there is new news to share. Stay tuned.

      • But can you comment on the Galaxy S2 that is or was supposed to come out? I mean, Rogers promoted the Galaxy S2 LTE for such a long time now and they decided to release this first. Doesn’t make sense to me. As far as tech specs go, I believe the Galaxy S2 LTE is far superior to the Razr in my opinion.

    Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the great feedback on the Razr. We’re very excited about this phone.

I’ve noticed one thing that I wanted to clarify here. Many of you have been commenting and asking questions solely about the Samsung Galaxy S II. As they are off topic to the post, they’re not approved as per the comment policy guidelines. Please feel free to check out the comment policy here: http://redboard.rogers.com/comments-policy/

We have a few LTE posts that have a very active LTE device discussion happening. I suggest jumping in there with any questions, comments, feedback. Many of your questions have already been answered and any new ones we’ll be sure to respond where we can.

    • The posts you are trying to direct us to, are just full of questions but no answers.

Unfortunately nobody from rogers feels the need to chime in. So ppl are trying to ask questions where ever they feel you guys are reachable.

  12. This website is ridiculous….announcements every week for devices that won’t be here for 3-6 months….if you live in the right city. If not, too bad.

Then there’s LTE- yah, sign up now and maybe there will be a device for it by sometime in spring 2012.

As for the Razr…not LTE compliant, won’t be out for 2 months. Yawn- wake me when it’s more than a checkbox on a long some pre-order list.

    Fail on all counts…big time.

    • Its amazing what people will complain about. First it’s people complaining that Rogers isnt telling them what devices are coming soon enough; now you’re complaining that you have to wait for the device to come out.

So to some it up… the complainers want Rogers to tell them in advance when a device is coming out; but also they want the device to be available right away… Goodluck with that.

      • Hahaha DMiles, you beat me to it.

You can either have advanced notice, or you can be told right when the device is launching.
The contradiction of wanting both at the same time is laughable. :P

  13. Well rogers has until November 20th to get it here or I’m switching carriers for the family

  14. Will the RAZR have an unlockable bootloader or is Rogers removing this feature as Verizon did in the US with their version?

    http://www.phonearena.com/news/Motorola-RAZR-first-phone-from-the-manufacturer-offering-a-bootloader-unlock-solution_id23190

  15. Hello RogersMelanie,

Any word on a ship date for the Razr yet?

  16. I read that international versions of the razr will have an unlocked bootloader option at the discretion of the carrier. Any idea if Rogers will have it locked or unlocked? I can live the unremovable battery and no LTE but a locked bootloader is a dealbreaker.

  17. This phone would have had more selling potential if it had the LTE radio. By only enabling HSPA, it’s no faster than the iPhone 4S, and thus slower than the every incarnation of the Galaxy SII, and recently-announced Galaxy Nexus, which makes this quite the deal-breaker for me. I’m less disappointed with the lack of LTE and rather that it’s not even compatible with HSPA+. In the face of the overwhelming hordes of iSheep, this will be a very tough product to sell to new customers, I imagine.

  18. Hey there,
I was thinking, will this device be out by november or december because i was gonna buy htc evo 3d in november. Should I wait for Razr or not.
    please reply

  19. Does this phone support 4G, LTE? What are the specs and what is the pricing? The previous RAZxx models were great; really well built phones and at the time if I had considered a flip phone those 2 were the only ones I would have selected due to their built quality.

Would be interested in this option (since you guys can’t carry the Atrix) over the iPhone 4S.

  20. Is this a 4G phone? Is it comparable in speed to the iPhone 4S and Samsung Galaxy S Infuse?

    • would also like to know this.

      • Dear Lord people is it so difficult to click (or find) the hyperlink on this page? The specs on the Rogers site clearly states its fastest network is HSPA. This puts it on par with the iPhone 4S, but it’s on a slower network than the Galaxy Infuse, which is on HSPA+ (50% faster).

        • No need to be snarky. I guess what we should be asking is why this device is being offered south of the border on the LTE network and Rogers can’t even get one that works on HSPA+. Rogers? Why?

    • Rogers’ website has it listed as a 4G (HSPA+) phone with 14.4 mbps theoretical peak, which puts it about par with the Infuse when you consider attainable speeds.
