Take TV into your own hands with Rogers Live TV beta app

Rogers Live TV appIf you’ve ever wished you could have a TV in every room of your house, you’re in luck. Introducing the Rogers Live TV app, currently in beta, that lets you stream live TV on your iPad. The latest in TV innovations, and a first in Canada, this new app gives you the freedom to watch  shows from anywhere in the home.

At launch, customers will be able to stream 20  channels through their iPad, with more channels coming soon. And there is no additional cost to Rogers Live TV.

We’re anticipating a full launch of Rogers Live TV app in early 2012.  A version for Android tablets will be available soon.

How it works:

Step 1: Check eligibility – The Rogers Live TV app is available via WiFi to Rogers digital television customers in Ontario who subscribe to Rogers Hi-Speed Internet with a MyRogers account.

Step 2: Set up your MyRogers profile – If you’re already registered for a MyRogers profile, move on to Step 3. If not, just go here to create your profile. Next, associate your Rogers digital television and Hi-Speed Internet accounts to your MyRogers ID. (You will need the account number found on your invoice).

Step 3: Download the app –Just download the free app from the iTunes app store, log in using your MyRogers profile and start streaming.

Step 4: Start streaming! – You’ll now have a selection of great content to watch on your iPad. Not all channels you subscribe to will be available on the app, but we’ll be expanding the list of channels in the future. Like any WiFi usage, Internet datawill count towards your monthly internet bandwidth allotment.

  1. What about Playbook support?

    • Hi B! Unfortunately we don’t support Playbook at this time. Right now the app is in beta for iPad, with a version for Android tablets coming soon. Thanks for your question.

    • Playbook? LOL, only in Canada would such a question get asked! How about Android phones or iPhones?

    • Your F.A.Q. says that you will support iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Are you going to limit support to the Galaxy (since that is what you sell directly) or will you allow it to be used on other Android tablets too?

(I’m thinking of buying the Toshiba Android tablet.)

I’m not asking you to promise support for specific models or for all Androids – I’d just like to know that you aren’t planning to block access from tablets that you don’t sell.

I realize that the Android market has become complicated with everyone from Amazon to Indigo releasing Android tablets, but it is my understanding that all the tablets with Android Market are pretty much 100% compatible…

  2. Will the service be expanded to those who don’t have an HD PVR (or no Rogers Internet, for that matter)?

    • Hi Stephane, the app is in beta right now so we will certainly be looking at how we can add to it in the future. Thanks for your feedback!

  3. Does the data used for stream get charged against our monthly allowances?

  4. Cool idea, looking forward to using it. Very frustrating that you need Rogers internet connection. I’ve got the Rogers cable and cable box, but use internet with another provider.

Me thinks the CRTC may have a problem with this restriction.

    • @ this point its still in beta as its been said. & we all know the crtc dont care about complaints unless it has to do with radio stations

  5. The “Rogers Live” app crashes as soon as I try and click on any of the items.

  6. Hi, can i use this if I have Roger’s cable TV, but use Internet from Teksavvy ?

    • RogersNicolas says: December 16th, 2011 a 9:50am

Hi JD, Rogers Live TV beta is only available for cable customers who subscribe to Rogers Hi-Speed Internet with a MyRogers account

  7. Would be nice if it worked. All I get is ‘service not available’ and 9999 errors.

  8. Great idea, but your average customers won’t be able to use it for long due to your monthly data caps.

At 600MB of data for an hour’s viewing, the average user will wipe out their monthly Rogers internet allowance in a couple of days, and then face enormous fines from Rogers if they don’t stop using their internet connection for the rest of the month.

(Besides, what customer would want to squander 10MB of precious data each minute to watch commercials?)

It’s not like you haven’t heard this from your customers before, Rogers.

    • its i assume just like their 360 app dtv(aka 480i/standard digital tv) mainly because its over wireless(wifi g/b for most supported devices) so i doubt it will have much affect if it has a limited number of CH.s

  9. I don’t have an iPad.

This app would be a lot more exciting if it we’re available for smartphones.

    Android in particular.

  10. sorry if i am on the wrong blog but I have a question. on my android s2 LTE if i was Rogers on Demand or Rogers Live on 3G or LTE does that use up my data. Not sure because if Rogers Live is a paid subscription is it considered unlimited use.

    thank you

    • Hi Ray, Rogers Live TV uses approx 600MB/hr of data which is counted towards your monthly Rogers Hi-Speed Internet allotment (varies depending on quality and size of the content). Much like any other video streaming site, customers are responsible for any bandwidth usage beyond their monthly limit. Rogers offers a variety of Hi-Speed Internet packages to choose from, for more information: http://www.myrogersondemand.com/index_internet

  11. Is there a way to set quality settings like netflix offers? It would be nice to get the choice of how much bandwidth is given up to this. Otherwise cool idea.

  12. I keep getting service is unavailable! I have Rogers hi speed Internet. Why am I getting this problem?

  13. I only get a “Service unavailable (9999). How can I get access? I have a username and password for My Rogers.

  14. hey, it’s great this exists. But when do you guys expect to expand on the lineup being offered? More channels?

    • Hi Chris, we’re always looking to expand our lineup and services. We’ll definitely keep you posted!

  15. Hi,
I am having the same problem getting a service unavailable for the past two days. Assistance regarding this problem would be of great help.

    • Hi Kevin, thanks for your feedback. Please reach out to us on Twitter @RogersHelps or Facebook for assistance.

  16. any chance the 360 app will get this as an upgrade?

  17. The Rogers live TV app doesn’t work, i keep getting error 9999, service unavailable. anyone else having the same issue?!

  18. I’m using an ipad to log-in.
