Close to home even when you’re far away with Smart Home Monitoring from Rogers

Ever left your house and thought: Did I remember to lock my front door? Is the garage door closed? Did I forget to turn off the coffee maker?

Now you’ll know with Smart Home Monitoring from Rogers, a home monitoring and automation service that allows you to automate sensors, cameras, thermostats, lights and small appliances no matter where you are using your computer or smartphone.

The system uses a rugged touchpad that allows you to automate your thermostat, schedule lighting to go on and off, and even view real-time video to see who is knocking at the front door. The system also has a cellular 2-way voice speaker phone that lets you speak directly to the Central Monitoring Station in an emergency.

The system also comes loaded with apps like:

  • A three-day weather forecast
  • Sports and news scores
  • Real-time traffic updates
  • Digital picture frame

How does it work?

Rogers Smart Home Monitoring runs ongoing full system status checks across both our wireless and High-Speed Internet networks. If something is wrong, you will get notified on your touchpad, mobile device and web portal. The system is also backed by a team of certified security experts with over twenty years of experience in security, monitoring and emergency services who monitor your home, 24/7 and in real time from our Central Monitoring Station.

How do I operate the system?

You can access, control and customize your home in real-time from anywhere through a web portal or mobile app. Want to keep an eye on what’s going on inside your home? No problem. The system will send you text messages or email when there’s activity in your home such as people entering and leaving, or arming and disarming your system. You can also watch real-time video streaming of your home from your computer or smartphone.

Can I set it up to work automatically?

Yes. You can easily set up automation rules from your personalized web portal. For example, to manage your energy costs you can schedule your thermostat and lights to turn off when you leave for work in the morning, and to turn on just before you arrive home.

How much does it cost?

Smart Home Monitoring has three rate plans, each including always connected wireless-data backup. Pricing to set up a basic system in your home includes:

  • $149.99 for a Smart Home Monitoring starter kit that includes a touchpad and sensor, based on a three year term
  • $99.00 one-time installation fee
  • Monthly service fees start at $39.99 per month with a Home Basics Package

  1. As much as I would love to have Rogers take control of my home, I would be concerned about the following:

    - What happens when I exceed my bandwidth limit? Do I get charged $2 every time my door opens?
    - What’s the contract like, 4 years?
    - How much can I pay you to tell me who’s entering the door? Or if someone has left me mail in my mailbox?

    Would love some honest answers!

    • I have had the system setup for few months now. With internet RSHM system.
I dont even come close to exceeding bandwidth. even with Rogers Internet light.
Bandwidth will never be a problem unless you download movies.
3 year contract. Standard with any Broadband /Wireless supplier.
It is up to you if you even want the Camera. It is an option.
you can just have Door/Window contacts. Glass break alarm and intrusion alarm.
I do like the Widget to turn on my lights when I am not at home.
That is my 2 cents worth.
Plus I get 5% off home insurance and piece of mind.
      Another Rogers Innovation.

      • That’s awesome Mike. How much extra discount do you get for working at Rogers?

        Cheers!

      • Are you serious buddy? You make it sound like Rogers is the first company to create home automation….what a joke

      • “3 year contract. Standard with any Broadband /Wireless supplier.”

You kidding me? I get 300 GB usage a month at the same speed of Rogers Extreme for 10$ less and WITHOUT any contract.

    • I’ll give you some honest answers.

      - There is no bandwidth limit in the security system, you’ll be happy to know it will cost you nothing everytime your door opens.
      - Contract is 3 years. Read the post before commenting.
      - Price for telling you who’s entering your door? Read the post before commenting.

So my honest answer, this service is for home owners. Home owners that have money. So go sit in your mom’s basement for a few more decades.

      • I don’t know about you. But with my 300GB usage and with my knowledge of being an Engineer, I have setup the same system and I pay nothing except for start-up costs

  2. Why is there nowhere on the site that lists the price of the peripherals??

Seems like you can’t run the system without them and yet they are not included in the price??

    • I agree with Mark. It would be nice to see an a la carte menu showing the pricing/options of the peripherals/sensors. Is this something that can be shared soon?

    • Mark,

Pricing is available from the field sales reps. It is really best to have them come to your home, show you the system and design the best solution for your home. The reps are trained with experience in the security industry to ensure that your home is being provided the best protection.

  3. Bring it to New Brunswick already!

  4. The pricing is a blueprint train wreck. Alarm force is charging $25 a month

    • you obviously didn’t read what the home monitoring actually does. If you did, you’d realize that what alarm force charges $25 a month for in nowhere near what rogers is selling here.

  5. I have all my services with Rogers (cable, internet, cell and home phone). Why Home Monitoring is not eligible for bundle discount (15%) as well?
