2011 year in review: top 5 favourite posts

Rogers RedBoard year in reviewWell, that’s a wrap. 2011 is nearly done and we’ve had a great year here on RedBoard! We’ve covered everything from the iPhone 4S launch to the Royal Wedding and welcomed some new writers into the mix. To mark the end of a great year, we’re recapping our top 5 favourite posts of 2011.

  1. My Day as a Rogers Android: Our own @RogersMelanie got to live a childhood dream. On October 26, she dressed as the Android mascot at Android TO, Canada’s largest Android conference, and entertained more than 600 attendees throughout the day. To mark the momentous occasion, we filmed a video of her once-in-a-lifetime experience which generated more than 10,000 views.
  2. Canada’s first LTE network is live: Where were you the day Rogers launched Canada’s first LTE network? I was in Ottawa – the first city in Canada to experience LTE – to show off the capabilities of the latest global wireless technology at a launch event. On that day, we also announced that LTE would be coming to Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal. And on September 28, we officially launched Rogers LTE in those cities.
  3. RedBoard Celebrates one year anniversary: On March 2, our blog turned 1. To mark this milestone, we held our first Tweetup in Toronto and invited RedBoard readers to come out and celebrate with us. For those outside the city, we held a contest to win RedBoard loot bags. We’re looking forward to celebrating our second birthday next year, as well as a first birthday for FilRouge, our new French blog, which launched in September of this year.
  4. Rogers launches new early upgrade offer: On May 6, we announced an early upgrade promotion that allows you to upgrade your device as early as six months into your existing contract term. We know many of our readers here on RedBoard are the kind of people that want the latest gadget as soon as it’s available. We were happy to offer this new option to provide our customers with this added freedom and flexibility.
  5. Rogers Innovation Report: top technology predictions for 2012: Just over a week ago, we launched the first Rogers Innovation Report, a regular report we’ll be doing to get Canadians views on technology. The best part? The infographic. This visual display of our findings revealed interesting statistics like the number of Canadians who sleep with their smartphones or have the urge to take them to the bathroom!

On behalf of the RedBoard team, we’d like to wish you a happy new year, and all the best in 2012. We’re looking forward to another great year.

Are there any topics you’d like to see us cover in 2012?

  1. I’m waiting for the ‘Rogers does away with throtteling and bandwidth caps’ post.. My bets are it will be the most liked ever…

Happy Newyears to you too Redboard Team.

  2. wasnt the 1st lte test during the 2010 winter olympics in bc?

  3. I’d like to know when new Windows Phone devices will be launched? 2nd gen WP devices have launched everywhere in the world except here. Thank you.

  4. Too bad you refuse to post so many comments!

  5. I am waiting to see when Rogers will offer an improvement to the current SMC and Cisco gateway modems. Will be nice when you announce a stand alone DOCSIS3 modem. I am sure this will make the most popular list for 2012!

    • yeah i agree i havent seen an update for the docsis 3 n gateway for a long time. i assume the next bump to the service will mean docsis 2 modems will be gone & new d3 ones to come

      • i found out after posting this they changed the password in dec. for the modem which would also mean a small fw update

  6. I wish that people could open up their own comments on redboard! For example, it would be great if instead of calling tech support to notify them about LTE service dropping to EDGE for almost an HOUR now… We could just post it on a Board!! That way tech could see where the problems are! It’s a pain calling in all the time!

  7. I agree with Kevin. When are the 2nd Generation Windows Phones coming to Canada?

  8. I’d like to see Rogers release the Galaxy Nexus. Gosh, I’ve been waiting so long for the phone, only for Bell to get it and make it an exclusive. Bring more news on phone release dates!

  9. Sounds like people are really excited by this post! Only 11 comments. Maybe it is time you started giving customers what they want and then you will see some excitement!

      Hey Tom,

What do you want to see more of? I know lots of people are asking about device launches, and while we try to share as much information as we can, we often can’t reveal launch dates in advance.

Is there something else you’d like to see us cover on RedBoard in the year ahead. i’m open to your suggestions.

      • Yes – announcements like Rogers putting an end to throttling, bandwidth caps, and improvements to the gateway modems by allowing stand alone D3 modems on your system. With respect to TV we have been waiting forever for improvements to the IPG, for whole home PVR and for many more stations to be available in HD.

  10. i just recived my new DVP phone & while scroolling thru the list of apps i seen the my account app which rogers has yet to adnowledge which unfoutnatly doesnt work with prepaid accounts but @ the same time neither does the rogers mall account balance page hasent been working for a long time(it used to work on my x1a)

  11. Id like to see a comparison between all the devices and also will Rogers Wireless carry the Motorola droid 4 lte?

      Thanks for your feedback, Matt.
It’s indeed a great idea. As far as this device is concerned, we don’t comment on releases before they may/may not launch.

  12. Let me echo the same sentiments as MANY other Rogers users…
Better value for money when it comes to usage caps. We all know that usage caps have nothing to do with congestion, and everything to do with not wanting to compete with online media streaming.

Rogers used to be Canada’s best media provider… now they’re just playing politics to force people to stay with them.

I want Rogers to be the best again… but unfortunately the trend is the other way and people are tired of the frustration.
