Sounds good. I can’t wait to get my hands on one.

So is the pre-order still only for new customers, or can existing customers pre-order as a HUP as well?

    • RogersMiranda says: April 13th, 2010 a 10:05am

      Hi Shawn,

The preorder is only for new customers. For more info on the Sony Ericsson X10 HUP, go here: https://www.rogers.com/web/content/x10-hup

More details will also be available on launch day.

      • Shawn Altorio says: April 13th, 2010 a 1:18pm

Darn launch day info. How are we supposed to prepare! ;p

Any idea what store stock levels will be like? Are we talking only a few per store, or will they be getting decent quantities? Need to know whether to show up before work or not (though without a PROMOHUP offer, won’t matter much for me)?

  2. Johannes Lindenbaum says: April 13th, 2010 a 10:28am

What’s the word on which Android version it will be running. Is this a carrier modified version of Android or will over-the-air updates come directly from SE? Will there be demos in stores to play with? Considering switching from iPhone…

    • RogersMiranda says: April 13th, 2010 a 11:21am

The device will ship with OS 1.6 but Sony Ericsson has told us that the X10 will be upgradeable to later releases of the Android OS later this year.

    • theninjasquad says: April 13th, 2010 a 12:16pm

My only concern is for how long we can expect updates on the device. I guess that is up to SE. Sure it will be great when they update to 2.1, but I wonder if they will bother with any updates past that. I hope they will since Google has indicated they will start making core components of the OS upgradable through them without requiring the carrier or hardware manufacturer to do it.

  3. theninjasquad says: April 13th, 2010 a 11:18am

The toughest thing will be deciding what colour to get.

  4. My conversation with the SE folks indicated the upate will come in November. As for whether it has OTA capability or not, the OS does have OTA menu within the system. However, there is no confirmation of the update being released Over The Air.

  5. From my understanding one of the major drawbacks for me is that the X10 will not have multi-touch!!! Too bad such a great product, also I have read people experiencing problems with battery life and phone not answering calls or hanging unexpectedly and finally performance issues slowing down the phone U.I. I guess will wait and see, or pickup a Nexus 1 or HTC desire!!!

  6. I would be more excited if I heard news that Rogers was getting a Blackberry Storm 2 that works on your network or the new rumoured Blackberry Storm 3 slider.

Now that is news, not a sony ericsson devised that was announced last summer

  7. I think the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is a really great phone, even with Android 1.6, but I am really looking forward to Android 2.1 and Multitouch, as the X10 will be awesome then.

  8. Android 1.6 isn’t so bad on the Sony Ericsson X10, but with Android 2.1 and Multtouch the phone would be a lot better. So I am really looking forward to the update.

  9. This phone looks pretty, but when I had a hands-on in one of your rogers store, the UI seemed to stutter more than I’d like. I recently had a iphone stolen, so I’m looking for a smartphone to replace it, and I’ve fallen for the new HTC INCREDIBLE… any word on whether Rogers will be carrying this phone, and how long do I have to use this crappy Razor until I can get my hands on one here in TO??? :D

    • RogersMiranda says: April 29th, 2010 a 3:08pm

      Hi Adam,

You’re definitley not the only one who’s got their eye on the HTC Incredible!

Unfortunatley, I can’t comment on possible future device launches but thanks for the feedback on the X10.

  10. I’m very happy with my x10, BUT….. It has 2 serious issues.

    1. It keepsake dropping wifi connections.
    2. The “a” key on the keyboard does not work very well.

These are both acknowledged issues by SE and an update has been made available. Unfortunately Rogers customers cannot seem to get the update as rogers has not allowedly it.

This is quite ironic since I just left Telus due to the fact that they’ve been very slow with issuing patches for my bb storm. I chose Rogers mainly for the fact they seemed to keep their customers up to date.

So what’s up with R1FA016 for the x10?

    • RogersMiranda says: May 3rd, 2010 a 1:06pm

      Hi Kevin,

Just wanted to point out that we’ve confirmed with Sony Ericsson that the X10 will be upgraded to 2.1 this November.

      • Kevin Daly says: May 5th, 2010 a 9:30am

Ok, great.. But what about the R16 update that seems to be available everywhere else, it fixes many problems, this is not a 2.1 update, it’s just a patch.

This should be delivered ASAP as it is fixes many major problems!

    • I am also having a huge problem with it dropping the WIFI connection… my bf has an iphone and he never has that problem. Tried to take it back, but was unable to due to fine print stipulations. Hope the problem can be fixed since I’m now stuck with it. :(

  11. Sorry about the errors in the last post. I think I need to turn off autocorrect.

  12. The X10a has had a few updates already and not a one has come out for Rogers. What’s the deal? I’m quite disappointed in the support. And here I was thinking the bottleneck for updates would with SE. A lot of phone issues and efficiency problems are fixed and would help us out a lot if Rogers could get their act together and SUPPORT their phones.

  13. RogersMiranda says: May 14th, 2010 a 10:56am

    Hi Paul and Kevin,

My apologies for the delay with this response. I’ve confirmed with Sony Ericsson that in Canada, the R16 patch update will not be supported.

They said, “The next update will come in accordance with the UXP upgrade to 2.1 which will include HD video recording, wireless home connectivity via DLNA, and improvements to signature applications Timescape and Mediascape to make them even smarter and richer.”

    • Thank you Miranda for your answer.

Well :( what can I say. This is horribly wrong from the side of SE. And I think Rogers should be more persuasive with SE to protect their customers. Because SE brought very raw untested device to the market, Rogers marketed it as a good device as a result device is not that good (no voice dial – can you imaging? with new law of driving that is horrible news for me!!!!) What could be the explanation if x10i already had 2! (not just one but 2!) firmware upgrades (which has nothing to do with Android OS – it is errors that SE made it their firmware) and Rogers x10a has none? So either 1. SE doesn’t care about canadian customers or 2. Rogers doesn’t care. If this is true we need to bombard this damn SE with complains and returning their products so hopefully they will get the message or they will loose Canadian market. If 2nd is true … what can I say :( This will be my last extension with Rogers.

  14. is not about an update for 2.1 now, is there is a huge problem with sony ericsson x10.
I brought the phone 2 days ago, I am now having trouble with the wifi, i reset the phone and it still doesn’t work. after that, i am now having a new problem with my internet connection on my cell phone, not with 3G but my own mobile network. I never have this problem in the pass with the iphone 3gs, i was force to get this phone cos i have dropped my iphone into the toilet and the htc Desire is out of stock. my wife like the look of this phone so i got it.
I have to say to SE.
I am so disappointed with your phone! I spent $730 USD for this phone and there are so many trouble with it! Is it so sad because I did move from Sony Ericsson to Nokia, Nokia is great, and than to iPhone, the best phone ever! Now I back with your X10….. so disappointing, I hope your new update will be out very soon cause November is no good at all!

  15. I hope Rogers will start providing their non iphone and blackberry customers with firmware updates. I had a nokia 5800 and while nokiw was @ firmware v5.0 Rogers was @ either 2 or 3 (probably 2). I have the x10 now so i’m really hoping I won’t have the same problem again.

Rogers please do updates for the x10!!!!! (it was marketed so hard)

    • I agree, I hope that Rogers supports the minor firmware updates for the X10 as well as the major one coming in the fall (Android 2.1). The major one may update the OS but the minor ones deal with issues that people are more likely to encounter. Please support these updates Rogers.

    • Agreed. If Roger’s doesn’t get the firmware update to fix the terrible battery life then I will be selling the X10 and getting a Nexus One. The battery life is AWFUL on the x10

      • There are ways to improve the battery life. You can start by only turning on your WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, or Data/MMS when you are going to use it. Also, another trick I found was that once your battery has been fully charged, power off the phone as soon as it has finished then turn it back on again.

I don’t know why but this has improved my battery life quite a bit. I can usually quite easily get 3 or more days between charges, though I’m exactly a heavy user or anything but still much better than it was.

        • This works because by shutting the phone off you are effectively killing processes that are left running after you finish using a program. A lot of android apps don’t give you the option to close the program…the os decides what to do with it. Running programs = increased cpu and ram usage hence increased battery usage. This also frees up available memory so it’s a good habit regardless. The other option is to download a task manager from the market. Just be careful what processes you kill.

  16. Rogers must support the smaller updates… They fix terrible problems with battery life, and some keyboard issues. We can’t wait until November / December for the updates.

Please talk to Sony Again, they are making Rogers look bad for selling this phone. It has great potential, but issues need to be fixed.

    • Just as an update, SE has pushed up their release of the Android update (to 2.1) to the third quarter of the year. By the sounds of things, we can expect the update around September (assuming Rogers puts it out for us at the same time). Any confirmation of this, Miranda?

      • RogersMiranda says: June 24th, 2010 a 11:26am

Sony Ericsson has said they will be making OS 2.1 for the Xperia X10 available to Rogers this Fall. Once we receive the OS, we will test it and make it available to customers as appropriate

        • There is a minor update as well.

THIS PHONE IS DEFECTIVE WITHOUT THE UPDATE, MAIL CRASHES, OUTSIDE KEYBOARD DOES NOT WORK BATTERY LASTS ONLY 1/2 DAY. THIS IS FIXED SUPPOSEDLY BY SONY WITH A MINOR FIRMWARE UPDATE. WE NEED ROGERS TO GET INFORMATION ON THIS UPDATE!

        • A quick question: Do you have a guess as to what the turnaround time is with OS updates? By that I mean, the time between when Rogers receives the update to the time it is released?

  17. Also, there’s going to be another minor firmware update this week.. supposedly to fix battery life issues. Are we going to be left out this time as well? :(
    Any confirmation Miranda?

    • I’m looking for the minor update as well, it fixes the battery and keyboard issue.

It is not acceptable to say that this update will not be supported by Rogers, this fixes stuff that is broken in the phone (keyboard & battery, email app crashes etc etc)…

Apparently the phone has sold well, so lets start supporting all these new customers.

      • RogersMiranda says: June 24th, 2010 a 1:58pm

        Hi Rahul and Kevin,

Yes, I can confirm that the firmware update will be available to X10 customers and Sony Ericsson should be making that available shortly via PC upgrade. I can update you here once it has been released.

        • Thank you, sorry for my virtual yelling.. I’m just frustrated because I moved away from Telus / Blackberry to Rogers / Android in order to achieve a more “open” environment where issues would be fixed.

My Telus Storm was unusable and telus took 6 months to update it after RIM had released the new OS.

        • Well, this is good news. Glad to see that we’ll be getting a firmware update that deals with issues on the phone itself before the OS 2.1 update. Thanks for keeping us posted.

  18. yeah. i thought i was gonna love this phone, but wifi doesn’t even work. no matter where i am (i’ve tried many many wifi spots) the x10 just wont register them. it just says ‘can’t find wifi’.

what a HUGE disappointment. I would dissuade anyone who is thinking of buying this phone from doing so. what a dud!

    • Your phone is defective. My Wifi works flawlessly and I have connected everywhere.

I suggest you return it for another onw.

    • RogersMiranda says: June 24th, 2010 a 2:33pm

      Hi CB,

That sounds very strange. I’d suggest you call Customer Care and talk to tech support. They’ll be able to help troubleshoot.

  19. So if i buy the xperia x10 now, will i get the 2.1 update or do i have to buy a whole new phone for that update?

    • you will get the update on the same phone.. will probably have to download it onto a computer and then transfer to your phone. Don’t worry though, the way Rogers deals with customers, we won’t have to worry about getting the 2.1 update atleast for another year after its released :@

    • Your phone will be updated to 2.1 when it is available.

    • RogersMiranda says: June 24th, 2010 a 2:34pm

      Hi Syd,

If you buy the X10 now, you’ll be able to get the 2.1 update later this year. As I said above, Sony Ericsson has said they will be making OS 2.1 for the Xperia X10 available to Rogers this Fall. Once we receive the OS, we will test it and make it available to customers as appropriate.

  20. Okay, I think i’ll get it now then :) thanks everyone!
