Good news iPhone users. You can upgrade your iPhone 3G or 3GS to Apple’s new operating system, iOS 4, right now via iTunes.
The new operating system includes some cool new features such as multitasking, folders, enhanced mail, iBooks, playlist creation, tap-to-focus video, home screen wallpaper, and more (Check out Apple’s website for more details on iOS 4).
Some features may not be available on all products. For example, multitasking requires iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS.
Upgrading your software is free.
How do I upgrade to iOS 4 Software?
1. Install the latest version of iTunes (iTunes 9.2) from the iTunes download page.
2. Once installed, run iTunes 9.2.
3. Connect your iPhone to your computer.
4. Select your iPhone, when it appears in iTunes under Devices.
5. Select the Summary tab.
6. Click Check for Update.
7. Click OK to update.
So what do you think of the new operating system? Tell us your experiences with iOS 4 below.

Installing as we speak. Note to all: Make sure to sync all your purchases, etc. before upgrading.
A good site to see all the new features of iOS4:
http://www.tipb.com/2010/06/14/ios-4-walkthrough/
hey rogers richard, any update at all on the iphone 4 coming out from the best carrier in Canada? and please anything but a cliche answer, i think we’ve got enough of those :)
Hi Zach.
Nothing new to talk about at this time. As RogersKeith said in the comments section of our iPhone 4 post: we are a long-time partner of Apple, and look forward to carrying the iPhone 4 when it’s available.

Richard.
Well thats nice that it is for the iPhone 4.. but ummm.. when are we getting the iPhone 4?!?!!?!?!?!?!
It’s not for the iPhone 4. I have a 3G and updated to iOS4.
What about iPhone 4? Let’s get some updates on when Rogers is releasing that.
Hey Alan and Mike.
Check out my reply to Zach above.
Cheers,
Richard.
another great site is http://www.apple.com
Maybe I’d enjoy it more if I could purchase an iphone 4….oh wait im in Canada.
Minor correction: iBooks isn’t part of the OS and isn’t available in Canada just yet.
Spoke too soon, iBooks is now available.
iBooks is available in Canada. Once you have iOS4 installed, search app store and the app is there. I’ve been using it an works great. :)
I just updated my iPhone 3G to iOS4, but It’s very very slow… I guess Apple is forcing the iPhone 3G users to upgrade iPhone 4 by providing this sluggish software… Total disappointment for a long waited iPhone 3G user.
Disappointed at Apple :(.
I upgraded to iOS4 and now my 3GS is unable to connect to rogers data network. Am I alone?
Hi JB,
You might want try backing up your iPhone and then doing a full restore to solve the problem.
I am having the same problem. cannot connect to edge or 3g. doing a full restore now
Any luck, TVB?
Same here. I installed on my 3G (Rogers SIM) today and now it doesn’t recognize the SIM card.
Did you try the full restore suggestion? After backing up, of course…:)
Can you at least confirm July availability? There are a lot of rumours of it being pushed back. Thanks I know this is for ios4.
Not alone I dont have data either, and the carrier update says its worked but it stays on 7.0, i have tried restoring, maybe i will do it again
i’m having same problem too. 3g data not working
same – data not working iphone 3G iOS4
Anybody else having issues with ios4 and rogersondemand ?
Hi L, we also got your tweet on this. I’ll see what I can find out and get back to you.
Rob … that is impressive ! cudos to you for the quick answer. At least knowing that somebody is out there looking at this helps a lot.
Next game is at 10am tomorrow … so I have some time I just need confirmation: is it me ? or is it ios4 ?
No problem. Some good games tomorrow morning!
Can’t say yet, but we’ll try to replicate first thing and let you know.
Just an update ! After a reset, backup/restore, on/off and other things ondemand is working. It seems not to be related to a rogers issue.
Excellent, L! BTW we tested and found that if you uninstall and then re-install RODM, everything should work fine.
I am having the same problem with the Rogers on Demand app after upgrading to iOS4. Please let me know too. Thanks.
Jer, please try uninstalling and then re-install RODM.
what is RODM??? do u mean the firmware??
Some customers have asked about the RODM app. But I see you’re having a similar problem to others on the thread.
You’re tried a full restore, right? You may want to try putting it into airplane mode and then switching it back.
Hello there
Anyone has this issue? Updated IOS4 – using 3gs, roger’s carrier has been updated as well, with Itune las version. Wifi works, phone works, but NOT internet on 3G. The signal Rogr’s is there. Any similar problem?
Thanks.

Yes, I have the exact same issue. Got a carrier update during iOS4 install.
No cell data.
Tried reboot, hard reset, then restore. After restore, but before restoring from backup, I checked and Cell data was working. During restore from backup, asked me if i wanted to do the carrier update, i accepted.
Back to no data.
Went to Settings/General/About – it asked me if i wanted to do a carrier update. I accepted. Still no joy. Carrier version says Rogers 7.0 (Didn’t see version before the update popped up.)
I’m thinking if i restore again, and don’t let it do the carrier update it might work. It takes a looooong time, so i’ll have to wait till tonight.
Anyone else have any experience with this?
Ok, Google found me a solution that worked, at least for now.
Found it on this blog:
http://robcottingham.ca/2010/06/no-data-connection-after-upgrading-iphone-to-ios4/
Great the update is finally available, but I just noticed a new issue for Rogers to look into:
I’m currently connected using a HP Mini 110 laptop, so have the pre-installed Rogers SIM Card to allow access. I get a error when attempting to update our iPhone, iTunes (9.2 in case you ask) states we are not connected to the internet, even though I obviously am. I can access the iTunes Store just fine, download purchases, etc., but iTunes says it cannot connect the the update server because I’m not connected to the Internet.
So if you know why Rob or Richard, I would appreciate it. :)
Thanks in advance from a faithful Rogers client. :)
Happy to help if we can, javatyger.
Have you tried to do the upgrade more than once? It may work if you try it again…perhaps tonight or tomorrow morning?
Maybe I need to explain this a bit better to help:
Besides my BlackBerry and my girl-friend’s iPhone, I also have a HP Mini 110 through Rogers, your netbook which has a SIM installed behind the battery.
Originally after seeing the iOS4 was available, I connected via the HP Mini using the Rogers SIM Card, so using the Rogers network. I connected her iPhone, opened iTunes 9.2, then clicked the button to check for updates – iTunes returns an error stating it cannot connect to the update server because I’m not connected to the internet.
The funny thing is I can access the Apple store, buy songs, do downloads, etc., except use the update software for iTunes. iTunes for someone reason, when I’m connected via the HP Mini SIM Card, doesn’t recognize my connection for updating iPhone software.
So I’m home now and connected via WiFi and the update went through just fine now, downloaded and installed, no issues. So Rob what I’d suggest is to check why iTunes cannot connect to the update server when connected via the SIM card on a HP Mini.
Thanks for the advce … problem solved. I just plugged my Iphone on myg other computer and Bing! Everythong came back, included some features that did not appeared when I upgreade to IOS4. Mystery.. but my Roger’s data work fine now. SO the best advice I could give is to plug the Iphone to another computer, with last version of Itunes installed. Hope this helps!

Glad it’s sorted, thanks for sharing this info.
Good update missing a bunch of stuff with my 3G but that was expected.
No issues connecting to Rogers network after
Make sure you download the updated carrier file. it happened after i plugged my phone in again :)
have fun
Been using the iOS4 for a few weeks now and you guys scared me with that Carrier Settings update this past weekend :P
I can’t wait until the iPhone 4 comes out, hopefully we hear more about our launches soon!
Ok now I got an issue after the os 4 update. I can’t download apps via 3G. iTunes says I have to connect via wifi or on my PC to download apps. Not cool…. :(
I tried to upgrade my 3G to IOS4 and it seems to have crashed, it just keeps restarting and i get these errors!!! HELP!!!
Hi Jake, there have been some good suggestions from people in this comment thread. Did you try any of them? Or did you call Care to help?
I did everything, including going to the apple store, and also spent 1.5 hours on the phone with apple. They said there is a problem between the new update and my PC chip set. So i have to find another computer and do a complete reset, and then sync my files again, only problem is that my contacts weren’t sync’d so I lose them, that sucks.
Ok, blonde moment for me…
Didn’t notice the app update was over 20mb so that’s why I wasn’t allowed to download it. :-p
