BNJR Mom I <3 Paris! Rogers introduces new U.S. and International Text Messaging Travel Packs
You’ve got your ticket, itinerary and passport all ready for your summer vacation.
And, if you plan to bring your smartphone along for the ride we’ve got some news that will help make keeping in touch less costly: our new U.S and International Text Messaging Travel Packs, featuring a greater number of included text messages with a rate as low as $0.10 per sent message in the U.S. and $0.20 per sent for International. And best of all, received text messages are free!
What is it?
U.S. and International Text Messaging Travel Packs are a one-time purchase of text messages at a discounted rate for use while outside of Canada.
Travel Packs are valid for one month from the date of purchase. And, if you run out of the included text messages, you can keep on sending messages at the reduced rate provided by your Travel Pack until that month is up.
The U.S. Text Messaging Travel Pack text messages may be used all over the U.S., including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The International Text Messaging Travel Pack may be used for international text messaging excluding the U.S., Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Cuba.
What are the new rates?
Text messaging Travel Packs range in price from $12.50-$50 and can save you up to 87 per cent off Rogers regular text messaging rate outside of Canada, depending on which Travel Pack you choose.
To find the one that’s right for you, check out www.rogers.com/travelwithyourphone
How to Get It?
You can add a travel pack right from your phone:
- Text “SAVE” to 7626. A link will be sent to your phone to allow you to activate the pack.
- Or, select the Internet icon from your phone’s main menu to get to the Rogers Mobile Internet site, www.rogers.mobi. From there, click the My Account link, select Browse New Services, then click Travel Packs.
Also, if you frequently travel to the U.S, you may want to check out Rogers recently announced One Rate data roaming plans. For about $10 more a month than equivalent domestic plans, you can use the same data allotment in both Canada and the U.S. to check email or use your phone’s mobile internet.
Where will your summer vacation take you this year? Have you ever used a Rogers Text Messaging Travel Pack?

I wan’t to be happy about this but it quickly turns out to doubling my monthly rate just to add data voice and text to my phone to go to the states for a couple of days.. How is there not a cheaper option? I’m just going to the weekend and I want to be able to talk for say 20 min send 20 text messages and have 10MB of data..
How about offering a 20/20/20 program for $20.. Seems fair.. Or work out some free deals with the other carriers in the US.. Their customers can come here on their current plan and yours can go there.. (I understand this will not make Rogers money.. but maybe you’ll end up with more customers..)
Wow, 50¢ per text when in the US!?!? …and that’s a deal?!
All this talk of increased competition with new players coming on board etc, and the big 3 just continue to gouge Canadians. How can a tiny new player charge 15¢ per text when in the US and a multi-billion dollar well established corp has to charge 333% more?
Text messages are a cash grab, just like call display and other “features” that you are charged extra for. The fact that Rogers (and the rest of the so called “competition”) can get away with charging $0.15 per text is an absolute disgrace. And don’t get me started on wireless long distance. With technological advancements prices should be going DOWN. Funny my Rogers bills have ALL gone up for wireless, home phone, Internet and TV in the last year. Amazing isn’t it?
On rogers.mobi, the data plan packages still show the old price…
Can you please fix ??
Thanks for flagging Max. I’ll look into this.
My girlfriend is travelling to Germany, with this new international plan we can message back and forth… but will she get charged roaming charges if she leaves her phone on the entire time and sends text messages…?
Hey Jawny,
Roaming charges are not incurred unless the phone is sending or receiving information. By keeping the phone on (and not using any of its services), your girlfriend will be able to avoid all roaming charges, unless she has access to Data. If her phone can access data then she must turn this feature off to avoid incurring roaming charges.
By simply not using the phones data capabilities (email, browsing etc) this will still result in roaming fees since the phone will continuously update with the network to look for new info. This uses up small amounts of data which she will be billed for.
So, if your gf’s phone uses data, turn OFF data services. Then if she only sends text messages using this travel pack, she will not be charged roaming fees.
Hope this helps!
I’m from Surrey, BC and I make regular US trips. I wouldn’t mind using my BlackBerry in the US once in a while, but it is just too expensive. I don’t need regular minutes/texts/data but it would be nice to use once in a while.
Rogers has started moving in the right direction with the Canada/USdata roaming for $10 more. Unfortunately, it doesn’t extend to text messages (which is just really small data) and voice.
For now, I use a T-mobile pay as you go SIM for minutes/text.
I got the travel package and want to know is there a way to check how much talked time/data i been using?
thanks!
Hi Henry,
No. Unfortunatley there is not way to track usage related to travel packs.
I am travelling to paris and 1 day in England. I have purchased ahead of time: 250 international texts, 25mb data international, 70min voice travel time international. When I am in Paris, and England will I come home to any surprises to my bill as long as I have kept within my prebought pkg if I leave my phone on as is???
Hi Robin,
As long as you do not go over your voice/data/sms buckets and have confirmed that the three travel packs are active on your account for the entire time you are outside of Canada, you should not see any additional charges when you return.
