RedBoard video: How to catch every second of the 2010 FIFA World Cup
With the first match of the 2010 FIFA World Cup kicking off at 10:00 a.m ET today, soccer fans everywhere are gearing up for the world’s biggest sporting event.
As part of our RedBoard video series, I speak with Anthony Antonelli, Senior Director, Consumer Marketing, who provides a hands-on demo of the different viewing options Rogers customers have to catch every second of 2010 FIFA World Cup. (For detailed instructions on how to access the content, check out last week’s blog post).
And, in partnership with CBC, Rogers customers – for the first time – will be able to catch a selection of tournament action in 3D, including the third place and final matches.
Recently, we also held a launch event with soccer legend Eusebio in downtown Toronto to kick off of our coverage of the tourney. If you couldn’t make it down, check out the highlight video below.
So how will you be watching the 2010 World Cup action?

Not so fast! Where’s the iPhone/iPad app?
Hey Pita,
The Rogers on Demand Mobile app is available for iPhone users. You can download it through iTunes.
It will also work on iPads but it isn’t optimized for it.
I’ve tried searching for the app and don’t see it. I see the other apps like shorts in the city but no rogers on demand mobile. what gives?
It’s not visible on iPad iTunes.
It’s not visible on iPad store.
Sorry for the confusion. It is not actually available through iPad iTunes.
@pita just search ‘Rogers’ in App store and it’ll appear. :)
Hey Miranda,
I’m trying to watch on Rogers’ On Demand Online website but it’s extremely sluggish. I suspect that there are probably quite a few people using the service, causing the slow-down and inability to connect….but will Rogers do anything to up the bandwidth and improve the experience so that everyone can enjoy?
Thanks!
Horrible.. The internet portal rogersondemand is terrible and slow. I knew I shouldn’t have got excited abt rogers giving something free
just to confirm that once we download it, we will NOT BE using up our data plan
Hi Ray,
Correct.
Data used by the mobile app won’t count towards your data plan bucket. Downloading the app itself does incur some small data charges.
so if I purchase the $15 250 mb data plan for my iPad the download this app and pay the initial $10 the I can watch all 64 games with out using my 250mb data plan
Correct.
@Brian and @Paul
We’re aware of the issues and we’re working hard to fix.
I have to pay for service after download?
Yes. It is a $10 one time fee and then $5/month after that.
Great demo on the product. As a result, I just tried the app and love it. We will have a lot of fun with the sounds + flags! Can’t wait to utilize the app. The Rogers rep is perfect! Well done.
so if i have on my 3g and im using rogers on demand does it use up my data or is it just the wifi that doesnt use up my data?
Using WiFi on a mobile device doesn’t use data from our wireless network. But if you use RODM while on our network, data won’t count towards your monthly data bucket.
Hi there, I am so excited you are going to have some games in 3D. I have been waiting months for content. Do you know if there will be a listing of what games will be in 3D? Some places are saying you will only have the last two games but it seems you may have more. I checked rogers.com but could not find any info. Thanks :)
Hi David, we’re excited too! You can find more details here.
hi rogersrob, can you please provide some detail info how can i watch this 3d world cup? i have a 3d tv and rogers hd pvr, and i would like to know the schedule of the 3d world cup and which channels? how can i watch these games? thanks so much.
Hi Louis, no details available yet, but once they are I’ll share them with you.
I don’t see any of the games available in HD On Demand yet – what’s the holdup?
hi i got this app yesterday and it keeps crashing when im using my 3g and edge, but when i use my wifi it works y is that.if i cant use my 3g on it then i dont want this app.
so when im at work and i watch the games on the rogers demand on my 3g it wont go towards my data bucket?
Yes, it won’t count towards your data plan. Regarding the challenges you had, have they cleared up?
Nice!
I’m definately cancelling my mobile on demand unless I start seeing full tv shows.
$5:00 for clips?
there are enough news apps that provide video reports.
Android version needs Nexus One support!
I love this app for the world cup. Watching the early games on my way to work is awesome and it streams perfectly.
The rogers on demand app though sucks. No full shows and very little choice. There had better be big improvements in content if i’m to continue paying after the world cup.
For now though awesome
The Rogers On Demand stream on my iPhone is really bad. I can’t watch for longer than 20 seconds before it tells me it’s loading the video and then the app crashes.
Rogers: what is going ON? If this doesn’t get fixed, do I get my $10 back?
Hi,
I’m having a few problems with the app. Sometimes the video doesnt even play or only plays for a couple minutes. Has anyone else had a problem with the app not playing video or crashing half way and going back to the apps home screen?
Its kind of frustrating given that i’ve already paid for it and trying to wathc the brasil match.
