Heads up! Final 2010 FIFA World Cup games to be broadcast in 3D

FIFA World Cup in 3DThis World Cup has been all about getting the matches where, when and how you want them and Rogers has been delivering them on multiple platforms: Online? Check. Mobile? Check. On Demand? Check. In HD? Check.

And with upset after upset in the early rounds, this World Cup is proving to be one of the most exciting yet. Adding to the excitement is the fact that the final matches of the tournament – the match for third place [Saturday, July 10 at 2:30 pm ET] and the final championship match [Sunday, July 11 at 2:30 pm ET] – will be broadcast by CBC in 3D. Rogers Digital Cable customers in Ontario can go to channel 900 to catch the in-your-face action.

Here’s what you need to go 3D:

  • A 3D TV set
  • 3D glasses that came with (or are compatible with) your 3D TV
  • A Rogers HD digital box or HD PVR, such as the Cisco/SA Explorer 4250HD, Pace 551HD, Explorer 8300HD and Explorer 8642HD
  • An HDMI cable connecting the HD box or HD PVR to your 3D TV
  • Setting your 3D TV to “side-by-side” 3D format (consult your 3D TV’s manual)

Enjoy the action. This type of excitement only comes once every four years – and with 3D, you’ll be able to experience it like never before.

How will you be watching the final two games? What do you think of the tournament so far?

  1. one thing I will never understanding is having to wear glasses to watch TV.. ( especially glasses that cost $300 – plus the cost of a $4000 TV set. )

I have two plasma TVs (43″, 50″) in my home with HD TV.. very happy with them.. Not sure I understand the whole 3D thing – might never understand…
Or possibly I do… another case for us to spend thousands of dollars – so we can hope to be up to date for about 6 months till the next big thing.. like watching TV with out having a TV set.. ( wearable glasses – for a low price of $3000 )… LOL

    • Not all 3D TV’s cost $4000. I picked up Samsung’s PN50C8000 for $2500; which is equivalent to a top of the line 2D Plasma’s price – and it included a 3D Blu-ray player and 2 pairs of glasses. I am already seeing deals for glasses on EBay – and expect their price to drop significantly within the next year. Maybe not a reason to go out and buy a new TV, but if you are buying a new TV anyway, why wouldn’t you get the 3D capability?

Is it just the final match or the semi-finals too?

  3. Hi there, I see that world cup will be broadcast in 3D, but I called Rogers and they dont know anything about it,I have everthing thats required but on my PVR there is no channel 900 it skips from 899 to 901(RADIO STN). Is the channel going to be available on the day or in the days leading up to it,and why is that nobody at rogers knows anything? Also if I do end up getting it can you record it,and will it play back in 3D? Any help much appreciated.

  4. 3D is a gimmick. Just like the slew of movies coming out at the theater right now. The novelty will wear off once people get bored of it and tired of wearing the uncomfortable glasses to watch. Not to mention the overpriced TV sets you need at home too. One day it may become the norm but not for some time yet. Rogers is reacting to other content providers that are all wanting to be the first to have 3D programming. I am sure the 10 or so people that tune in to channel 900 will appreciate it though. Probably half of them will call tech support to ask why the picture is all distorted though.

  5. Hi Rogers Rob

  7. It’s 2:37 Jul 10, I have 3D TV and 3D HDMI cable and 3D glasses, but there is no picture in chanel 900 :(((

    • Feri, sorry to hear you had trouble getting your image. What make/model TV do you have? Do you leave in a house or apartment? Did you follow the above instructions?

  8. to feri:

i have exactly situation as you. the info that i got from rogers is NO 3d for apartments, only for house. so

to rogersrob, is it true? if it is true, why? dont rogers care about the large amount of apartment customers living in downtown, toronto? in fact apartments are increasing means more apartment customers. and rogers did NOT provide this info so i am very upset about it. now i missed the last 2 games in 3d.
