Exclusive 2010 FIFA World Cup Offer for Rogers iPad Customers
Nearly two weeks into the 2010 FIFA World Cup, we know that our soccer-crazy customers are passionate about accessing the tournament live on their mobile devices. That’s why Rogers has launched a FIFA World Cup app specifically for customers with iPad Wi-Fi + 3G. The new app will allow you to live stream all the remaining 2010 FIFA World Cup games on your iPad.
How much is it?
As a special offer for iPad Wi-Fi + 3G customers the app will be free to download and use. All data generated while using the app on the Rogers network will not come out of your monthly data bucket
How do I get it?
Go to www.itunes.com/appstore and search for Rogers LIVE 2010 FIFA World Cup. You must have an iPad Wi-Fi + 3G activated on the Rogers network in order to view content of the app.
If your iPad is not currently with Rogers, all you have to do is obtain a micro SIM, pop it in and start the on-device activation process. Detailed instructions can be found on the RedBoard post about activating your iPad. Plans are good for 30 days from activation.
Also, for more information on the different ways you can experience the 2010 FIFA World Cup with Rogers, check out our post here.
What happens after the World Cup?
Unlike the Rogers on Demand Mobile app we announced a few weeks ago, this app will only include 2010 FIFA World Cup games. It will not contain other Rogers on Demand related content. After the tournament, just simply remove the app from your device and try to adjust yourself to football withdrawal. :)

Great! At least in theory.
Unfortunately, though, Rogers’ network simply wasn’t up to the task when I first tried it out, and I could only watch 30 sec. “episodes” before the screen froze. My suggestion would be to also allow watching when using a Rogers Hotspot to ease the load on the network.
Hi PM. Sorry you had issues. Thanks for the suggestion though. I’ll be sure to pass it on to the team.
I have used it and I see that the data used for the match come up in my usage.
Is there any way of of checking if the data really doesn’t count to my usage?
Hi Urel,
Unfortunatley there is no way to check but I can assure you data used by the mobile app won’t count towards your data plan bucket.
Thank once again Rogers, for IGNORING the Android crowd. Everything is only for iPhone.
Hi John,
Live streaming of the World Cup is available on Android devices through Rogers on Demand Mobile app. Just go to http://www.rogers.com/rodm for details and to check the list of supported Android devices.
Yep, it sure is available…. for a fee!
Oh wait, I can watch all of them I want on CBC for FREE!
Way to go Rogers…. way to show your customers how valued they are. Charge them for something that is free elsewhere. Typical.
Hi Bill,
Actually, the iPad app is free. Free to download and free to use. Data used when using the app does not come out of your data bucket.
For RODM on other devices, it is a one time fee of $10, and then $5 a month after that. However, this includes other on demand content, not just World Cup games.
I really like this forum, the fact that you guys have a forum that shows updated news about what’s new and upcoming on Rogers is really really cool.
Any news of a Canada release date for the iPhone 4 yet? :)
Sugar coating it still won’t get you an answer. :D
Lol I wasnt trying to butter you guys up
You seem like a good guy though, do you know about a canadian release date for the iphone 4?
Hahaha :D
Fantastic work Rogers! Works great and thumbs up on the free data usage!
Just because of this, I signed myself up for the 5 Gig plan for just a month. It works great! Nice of Rogers to do this. It will be even better if I can keep the data plan on my iPad, but only I can share my data plan from my iPhone.
Why can’t we download this for the iphone? If it’s on 3G, I see no technical reason for why it’s not offered :-(
Hi Chad,
You can live stream the games through your iPhone by downloading the Rogers on Demand Mobile app. Go to http://www.rogers.com/rodm for instructions.
I watched a game successfully on Saturday, but now the app just hangs on the title screen and doesn’t do anything. My 3G iPad plan is active and everything else is fine but the app no longer works.
Hey,
Sounds strange. I’m not aware of any issue like this. Have you tried calling tech support? The will be able to help troubleshoot.
Unfortunately, there is an issue on the WI-FI version of the iPad. You are able to load the app on to the iPad, however, it attempts to access the Rogers network to determine if you are a Rogers customer, however, you must be on the 3G network in order for the system to recognize you as a registered user.
Is there another way to access?
Hi Ryan,
No. The app is only for customers with an iPad Wi-Fi + 3G activated on the Rogers network.
And you dont think thats unfair and dumb? I mean pardon my language but I spend close to $200 dollars, on express high speed internet, VIP cable and wireless voice plan wi/ $30 data plan. Yet because I dont want to spend an extra $15-30 on an ipad Data plan, I can use the service. You couldnt ask the user to access the app (for first time, registration purposes) through a rogers wifi network? You couldnt ask the user to enter their account number? or something? I mean this is clearly not the reason why you guys made it only available to wifi+3G people. I think its more along the lines of wanting more money, since you guys made it free. See I didnt mind paying 5 dollars on my iphone, but not allowing me to do so for my ipad wifi only is really dumb on rogers side. Unless there is a reasonable explaination which I doubt.
Thanks for Nothing ROGERS,
AE
Just hooked this up in time for the Brazilian ecstasy…..saw every minute up in the Kawarthas. Brilliant signal and stream. Was worried that I was chewing up plan time but discovered after the fact that it is gratis.
Fantastic promo….Rogers irritates the heck out of me on some occasions but the FIFA streaming is superb.
So we are going into extra time between Ghana and Uruguay and the signal dies……shut down at exactly 430….I take back the nice words….I’m furious…will try again….
