Connected Rogers Magazine: URmagazine gets revamped & refreshed

You may notice something different delivered to your home this week as we have overhauled and upgraded URmagazine, renaming it Connected Rogers Magazine.

URmagazine has been around since 2007 providing you with the latest on technology, entertainment and Rogers services. But as editor-in-chief Derek Malcolm says in this issue’s introductory letter: “Just as technology continuously evolves, so do our readers.”

In addition to a new name, the magazine has been redesigned from cover to cover with a cleaner, brighter design that has more of a lifestyle feel to it while staying true to its tech and entertainment magazine roots.

The magazine’s content has also changed: “It’s about you,” says Malcolm. “We want to help you do the things you love – from travelling to couch surfing to exercising – while utilizing your Rogers services and the latest tech. In other words, how to get the most out of the connected life.”

Some of the features covered in the debut issue include: The results of the mag’s Best of 2010 poll; a look at the Samsung Focus running Windows Phone 7; the latest on Rogers on Demand; and a holiday gift guide that will make even the most unassuming gadget fiend drool with excitement.

We’ve also renamed the website to connectedmagazine.ca.

      Hi Will.

I agree. I think clearly conveys the content’s focus — and what gadget fans like us care about nowadays.

Let us know your thoughts on the redesign once you get a copy!

      Richard.

  1. When I received my first copy of UR, and glanced through it, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. It was nothing more than one giant advertisement – there was nothing at all critical or “journalistic” in the magazine at all! Everything that was a “review” was simply a marketing blurb. So changing the style is irrelevent – you need to add something called “substance”. How about getting real tech journalists to write articles and reviews instead of PR hacks?

      Hi Steve,
      Thanks for your feedback!

Connected Rogers Magazine is a custom-published magazine for Rogers designed to educate our customers on products and services. With regards to your point on content, Connected Rogers Magazine does maintain a ratio of approximately 30% content that covers non-Rogers topics or products Rogers does not sell, including tech news, profiles on industry professionals, entertainment personalities and more.

As for our contributors, the magazine does use Canadian and international journalists that have written in and appeared on major media properties, such as the Toronto Star, CNN, Citytv, Maclean’s and Rolling Stone.

I hope that addresses your concerns. You can also contact Connected Rogers Magazine directly at http://www.connectedmagazine.ca/contact-us/feedback-form

      Richard.

      • Ok. Perhaps I should have read more closely. Can you point me to one article on any topic – hardware, tv show, movie – that was negative/critical? For instance, “don’t get such-and-such a device because it has a lot of problems.” I mean, I can see why you don’t for products you sell, but not every review of every tech gadget you list should be a glowing one.

Even things that are good have some cons, and UR never, at least as far as I saw, ever listed a product’s/movie’s/TV Show’s cons.

          Thanks Steve,

I’ve forwarded your feedback on to my colleagues at Connected Rogers Magazine.

          Richard.

  2. Hi,

I used to get this magazine delivered at my home about a year back and then it just stopped. I thought it was discontinued. Can I start getting these again?

It was free for me at the time — maybe for being a loyal Rogers customer?

    Thanks!

  3. Really annoying when when Magazines pull random Jpegs to support text like on page 67 of your Connected magazine. Just spent my time trying to find the fridge in the picture at future shop as denoted. With a closer look, I discover it is not even a Whirlpool fridge but a kitchen aid fridge (I think). Connected magazine fails to communicate on this one. Careful people, what you see and read about doesn’t always match. Small issue but is this magazine gonna waste more of my time hunting other products it falsely advertises? Nope. Another mag for the recycle bin.

  4. I went to the rolostore web site and I cannot find the Space Invaders ice cube tray anywhere on their site, even though you have it featured in your magazine. Does it really exist, or is this a teaser?

      Hi Chris,

My colleague at Connected Rogers Magazine tells me the item was available from Rolostore at the time of publication. You may want to contact the retailer for more information on inventory.

      Richard.
