  1. Sweet. but how come the OS is only 1.6? That is very outdated.

    • 2.2 will be released before the end of the year. In fact they are very close to releasing it now.

      • Good to Hear.

      • Your kidding right? lol –
How can you even believe Rogers when they say “coming soon”? Coming soon means 2-3 months if you base that estimate on their past history.

      • Any news on when? I have to admit you have to take most of the release dates with a grain of salt…The track record speaks for itself. We seem to be the last to get anything in regards to the whole world…New products….OS updates…It’s kind of frustrating to get something that is already considered outdated by the wold standards. Anyways…I can’t wait for the Froyo update…I miss my favorite apps …especially apps to SD…Cheers

  2. Will this also work on the Fido network?

  3. Would’ve been awesome 6 months ago when it came out…

  4. 1.6? Wow guys. Wow.

      Hi Brad,

An over the air upgrade to the operating system is in the works and we will communicate those details when available.

      Richard.

  5. This looks lame. A 5″ tablet is really just a phone that can’t be used as a phone.
And why even bother releasing a 1.6 device? Thats even lamer. Just ship it with 2.2

Now for something that doesn’t suck…. Whats the timeline on the Tab? Bell’s releasing it this week. Is this going to be another Bell Vibrant + 3 months = Rogers release?

  6. Love the mentions of Pandora and Google Voice which aren’t even available in Canada. Is this the best promo you could find? A tad misleading for those who don’t know any better.

    • Hi Chris,

Correct, Pandora and Google Voice are applications only available in the U.S. We certainly don’t mean to mislead anyone. This video is obviously from Dell in the U.S.

  7. Will it be available at bestbuy / futureshop ?

    • Hi Raj,

This device is indeed available at Best Buy and Future Shop.

      • NO they are not…I have tried several rogers stores including future shop and none have any clue what I was talking about…Please advise when they will actually be in stock…Thanks

      • I have tried most of the Futureshops and BestBuy stores in Calgary, Sales reps dont even know that there is something knows as “Dell Streak”.
They dont have any rogers Samsung Focus either.

On the other hand , they had lots of telus windows mobile 7 phones in stock.

      • Any idea where I can get one (at any location Rogers, Bestbuy or Rogers store) in the Hamilton area? No one has one in stock – nor when they expect to see one.

  8. I tried ten stores today but no luck. Soon now, soon though, it will be mine.

As for the Stage UI and Android 2.2 upgrades for the Streak. Worry not good people. This is being provided by Dell and should be available within the next three weeks but could be as soon as tomorrow.

I’m quite excited to see a large format phone finally at Rogers, particularly one with a forward facing camera for Fring functionality.

  9. According to Dell’s website the update to 2.2 should be done before end of year……

  10. Ok…So i have been to every Rogers store in Moncton and have called the call center and there are no Dell Streaks available…Why is that? No one seems to know about it or when they will be getting them…I find it strange there are so many mentions of it being available and none to be found…Please tell me when it will be available because I am on the verge of going to bell to buy the desire Z…Thanks

  11. Hey guys,
Just picked up a Streak yesterday after searching literally ALL DAY for a store that had one in stock. I must say it is pretty sweet. The only thing i can’t stand is the 1.6 software it is currently running. Also after I bought it and signed up for 3 years I hear that there is a new model (Opus One?) coming out in March. I hope I didn’t just buy an already obsolete device.

  12. SO FRUSTRATING!
i’ve been waiting for the iphone 4 for the longest time.. then i decided since the iphone 4 is too exclusive to settle for the dell Streak. NOW after i placed my order, i get an email 3 days later saying that Rogers Back Ordered the phone…. i AM SOOO FRUSTRATED and DISAPPOINTED in rogers…. they fail me on a daily basis.

  13. Ok…So I was lucky…..I have a few connections within the company and got the only one in my city…WOW…what a nice phone…Donut is not the best however dell did a good job adding it’s own little touches…I can’t log into the twitter widget no matter what I do and the browswer has a few issues when it comes to pinch to zoom however besides that the phone is great…I imagine this bugs will be worked out during the next update to Froyo…Anyone else have these issues? It tends to force close when a very complicated web page is opened …especially when you try to zoom in using the pinch to zoom…

  14. Today the 2.2 update was announced for the streak. All versions and carriers were confirmed except rogers. When can we expect an OTA update?

    • Brandon,

Dell is hard at work preparing an over the air upgrade to the next-gen Android platform, AKA Froyo or 2.2, and we will communicate those details when available.

  15. So you have now removed my comments twice….even though both are factually supported. I just want some commitment to the all important customer. When will you update this device to 2.2? Dell has already started rolling out these updates and Rogers is not on the list at this time.

  16. @Andy

I noticed in the settings that you can put your facebook and twitter login info but only the facebook one works. I believe that the twitter problem will be fixed in the 2.2 update. In regards to the pinch zoom, yeah my streak has some issues as well. Often it will lock up and then say “sorry! browser is having some issues.” or something along those lines. I just click “wait” and it usually fixes itself.

    Come on 2.2!!!

    • Thanks man…I was getting worried..I also have issues connecting the phone to my laptop..it will disconnect by itself…I think I have a lemon and have already spoken to the Rogers plus store I bought it at..They are getting me another one…Hopefully I will have it in a few days…I am pretty frustrated with the fact the browser does this..I have quite a few other phones and bought this one for the main purpose of going on line…Everyone of my favorite sites do not play…seems like anything with flash on it will make it force close…not acceptable for the price I paid…Oh well…will have to see if the next one does this

  17. Are there any updates on when Rogers customers will get the 2.2 update? This 1.6 is driving me nuts!

    • Hi Scott,

Not at the moment. Dell is hard at work preparing an over the air upgrade to the next-gen Android platform, AKA Froyo or 2.2, and we will communicate those details when available.

  18. Here’s hoping Rogers isn’t asking for heavy customization. All Dell wants is approval to usher in Stage and 2.2 and they’re ready to push out that OVA update.

I must admit. I am hoping to avoid bloatware. I love that my Dell Streak isn’t Rogers branded (The form factor for this phone gets a lot of attention and people stop me on the bus to ask about it and I happily tell them it’s only available on Rogers) and I’m quite happy with my current Rogers account tracking application. I’ve heard horror stories of proprietary programs that have paid carriers for the “privilege” of being permanently installed on phones draining memory resources and battery life.

  19. I actualy Just sent mine back. Wanna know why?
    It’s not a phone.

  20. @ray….what do you mean it’s not a phone?
    @MyLiege…+1
    @Scott…+1
