Bye-bye beta: Rogers On Demand Online turns on new features and functionality
Online-video viewing is booming as more and more people watch TV shows on their computer.
Rogers On Demand Online – which serves up TV shows, movies, music videos and web-only exclusives – is also growing in popularity. Since we launched our beta last year, you’ve been able to provide feedback via Facebook, Twitter and the site itself. Based on your feedback, we are excited to tell you about new features and functionality as we take “RODO” out of beta.
Social features: One of the best parts about watching a show is being able to talk about it afterwards with your friends and family. Now, you can easily comment on shows right on the website, as well as rate and share the video via numerous social media sites or Email in just a few clicks.
Cool new functionality: Make playlists to help organize all your favourite videos – which are now available in higher resolution. We’ve also added the option of doing an audio CAPTCHA instead of a text-only one during registration to make the service more accessible.
More content: There are now roughly 1,500 hours of video content available, including web-exclusive live streaming of concerts and world sporting events for Rogers customers. We’ve also added programming from Saturday Night Live (Global), urMusic, WildTV, Equator HD, Rush HD, Treasure HD, The Filipino Channel, Oasis HD, WFN: World Fishing Network, andPOP, Citytv.com’s Shorts in the City, and The Cineplex Channel featuring movie trailers.
No registration required: Not a Rogers customer? Not a problem. Hundreds of TV shows and movies can now be accessed for free by anyone in Canada, without registration. If you are a Rogers customer you’ll get access to exclusive content such as live streaming of upcoming sporting events, concerts and web-only programming. In addition, if you’re a Rogers cable-TV customer, you will get online access to many of the specialty channels you currently subscribe to through your account.
Stay tuned…
We may be out of beta, but we’re not done yet. With a growing number of content partnerships and more features to be added soon, we’re confident this service will take your entertainment watching to a whole new level of enjoyment.
Want to stay in touch about the latest programming and features? Check out Rogers On Demand Online’s Facebook page or Twitter feed @RogersRODO to get the latest updates and to provide feedback on the service.
Have you signed up for RODO yet? What do you think of the new features? What content do you watch on the site?

Is the content now on the RODO site or does it still re-direct me to say the global or ctv websites to watch their shows? The first and only time I tried RODO I had to dig through lists to find the show I wanted then when I clicked the link to watch I was re-directed to the stations website where I once again had to dig through to find the show I wanted. So I tried again with another show.. Same problem. Also not having full seasons of shows it pretty annoying. Say halfway through a season someone tells me I have to start watching this show there is no way for me to go back and catch up.
As long as it’s easier for people to torrent commercial free shows for any season or episode they want people are going to do it.
If you make it easier to use your service people will choose it, it’s that simple. Look at iTunes, not the best, not the cheapest, DRM’d the crap out of things for years (still do with video) but they’ve made it so darn easy people flock to it..
Hi Chris,
Thanks for your feedback. I will pass it along to the Rogers On Demand Online team.
With regards to your question: We only redirect visitors for Global programming. All other videos can be watched right on the RODO site.
Thanks!
Richard.
Yeah the show I tried was totally on the global website… maybe I’ll try it out again now that the beta is over.
As long as the quality remains what it is…garbage…I will stay away from this. Video and audio is over compressed and is hard to watch. I can’t be bothered with this as it’s far from a good product.
Hi Ron.
As part of Rogers on Demand Online coming out of Beta, we improved the quality of the videos. Give it a try and let us know what you think! You can also submit feedback directly to RODO via the site’s contact form (www.rogersondemand.com/about/contact), twitter (@RogersRODO) or Facebook (www.facebook.com/RogersOnDemandOnline).
Cheers,
Richard.
When am I gonna be able to access tmn like bell users can :(
Hi Brian.
Unfortunately we can’t discuss channels that may be in the works. But, we are adding more and more content partners regularly so check back soon!
Richard.
I love the Rogers on Demand service, and also exclusive content for Rogers clients…but that brings up a question, because it seems you left out exclusive content for Western Canadians. We don’t have Rogers Video services out here (stuck with Shaw or Telus), so I notice when I go online and register as a Rogers Wireless client, that I only get access to 15 channels and other things I can’t see as a result of no Rogers TV. So can you explain what exclusive content is available for me as a Rogers client in Alberta?
PS: BRING ROGERS TV TO ALBERTA!!! :)
Hi Javatyger,
Good news: Some of the exclusives for Rogers customers include live-streaming sports events as well as live concerts. We’re also adding more and more content partners on a regular basis, so keep checking back to the site for updates.
Cheers,
Richard
When do i get to watch TMN and shows like greys anatomy and smallville online?
I find it next to impossible to watch a show meant for a 2 or more meter interface (TV) on a 1 meter interface (computer) now if we were offered full shows for download with commercials in them (so that providers could still receive funds for the service) I would be all for it provided the quality is at LEAST the same as what one can get from torrent downloads.
It’d be nice if someone could pay-per-view for specialty content instead of having to be a Rogers TV subscriber.
In an article in Saturdays Ottawa Citizen it said that the service is available to iPhone mobile users. I tried connecting with my iPhone to rogersondemand.com but no go. It says I need flash and we all know that the iPhone does not do flash. I checked the app store for a specific app and again nothing.
Is this or will this be available for iPhone users?
Thanks,
Allan
HI Allan,
Our Rogers on Demand Mobile app will be out very soon — in time for next week’s kickoff of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
You can check out more details on the app here: http://redboard.rogers.com/2010/goooooooal-catch-every-second-of-the-2010-fifa-world-cup-on-the-screen-of-your-choice/
Cheers,
Richard.
won’t play on iPad since its flash based
any plas for an iPad app?
Hi Hani.
We’re working on it but we don’t have anything to announce at this time.
Richard.
Is it just me or does anyone else find the ads really annoying. Other sites do not cut off to ads 5 times during an online stream but rather only at the begin. At least with traditional TV I can flip to another chanel.
Any plans to get rid of the ad content during the playback or should people just use other sites that do not have this annoying “feature”
I get a message saying the content can only be viewed in Canada. I am in Canada, & Regional settings on my computer is correct. I am at work though, so I’m thinking maybe I have to be at home ?
Hi Rob,
I’ve reached out to you directly to learn some more about the difficulties you’re experiencing.
Cheers,
Richard.
I have the same problem. It says that the service is only available to rogers customers in canada. I am a rogers customer and I am in Canada. Can anyone help me?
Hi Gerry,
Videos on RODO are only accessible by Canadian IP addresses. Perhaps your IT dept can help.
Or, you can watch when you get home as all matches are available On Demand.
Cheers,
Richard.
Anyone have any update on what the quality is like for the fifa world cup mobile app? I would like to purchase this, but I am very weary of the quality that will be provided over a 3G connection. This would really come in handy while commuting on the go train from oakville.
Is there any other method of accessing the content other than through flash in my browser. For some reason I am unable to get flash to connect to any videos while at work. Reset flash and even tried firefox but it just stops at loading. no error, no timeout, it just sits there in black. Other flash stuff works just dandy. Works fine at home though on a different computer.
Hi Doug.
Have you tried talking to your IT department? Sounds like it could be related to your work PC settings.
Richard.
I also am getting the message that I must be in Canada. I am in Canada and in my home.
