Unsupported devices, including the Google Nexus One, cannot run the Rogers On Demand Mobile app at this time. Please visit for the list of supported devices.

With regards to data charges – data used by the Rogers On Demand Mobile app won’t count towards your data plan bucket. Downloading the app itself does incur some small data charges.

I’ll be watching in HD and cheering for whom ever scores first!! I don’t have a favorite team I just like watching the games and seeing goals!!

    1. RogersRob

Hey Chris, I’m more of a casual fan too. Really looking forward to this.

The time difference makes it hard to watch most games live from home. When do you plan to watch?

  2. Soccer = meh.

Give me baseball with out all the MLB gouging.

  3. moiz

hi , the rogerondeman is completley on flash player that apple does not allow its use on iphone. Wondering how can we watch live matches of rogersondemand on iphone.

    1. RogersRob

      Hi moiz,

The Rogers On Demand Mobile iPhone app was developed specifically for the iPhone and does not use Flash. So you’ll be all set when it’s ready! We’ll update the post with the iTunes link once it’s live, so please check back prior to June 11.

Rogers On Demand Online, which can be accessed by all Rogers customers with a computer and Internet connection, does use Flash. It has live and catch-up FIFA content, plus primetime, daytime and specialty TV shows, movies, sports, music videos and more.

  4. Is there an iPad App for that? Bell has Mobile TV but they want you to pay for it. I hear they are using it to bait iPad people with a free Mobile TV. What’s the Rogers equivalent. Go get them Rogers. Give us an App for that. That way, you can decide not to let the bandwidth come off my account.

    1. RogersRob

      Hi Pita,

Appreciate getting your feedback. The Rogers On Demand Mobile iPhone app will work on iPads but it isn’t optimized for it. Update:To clarify, iPads are not able to download the application at this time.

Also note that with your subscription, data used for Rogers On Demand Mobile won’t be charged to your data bucket.

  5. Brian

Could you please explain this pricing structure. So its $5 a month to access anything on the rogers on demand hub. Then what is the $10 month for. I really dont get the pricing and what your paying for. Also would this work on the IPAD?? since all iphone apps are ipad compatible???

    1. RogersRob

      Hi Brian,

The $10 is a one-time fee specifically for the FIFA content, and the $5 subscription accesses other programming currently offered. Also – once you’ve confirmed the subscription and downloaded the app, you won’t be charged for the data it uses.

I understand that the iPhone app will work on the iPad, but it isn’t optimized for that device.

  6. lebowski

I will be watching the CBC HD broadcast via my over the air antenna.
Why will I accumulate data usage for the mobile streaming if I have to pay for the app and a monthly fee? If I am on a 500MB data plan I would go over my limit in a matter of hours, right?

    1. RogersRob

      Hi Lebowski,

Data used by the mobile app won’t count towards your data plan bucket. Downloading the app itself does incur some small data charges.

What kind of smartphone do you have?

  7. DJ

When watching On Demand mobile on 3G that will eat up a massive amount of Data? Is it only designed to be used on Wifi?

  8. Dan

So I can watch all the world cup games live on my iphone without using any of my data allowance.

This is awesome and very dangerous, I can sense being very unproductive at work for a month. Employers everywhere will be cursing you guys.

    8 Days!!!! Come on England!!!

    1. RogersRob

Don’t tell your boss it was us! :)

If you’re using the Rogers on Demand Mobile app for iPhone, then you’re set as per my other comments. It should be available in itunes soon – we’ll update the blog post when it’s live.

Also, if you’re a World Cup fan, you may want to follow the action at or Facebook.

  9. Brian

What is the catch here? Is the 5$ a month contract based, so 5$ a month foe x amount of month or can I add and terminate as I see fit. Also if I get the 5$ a month plan am i required to pay the 10$ fee to watch fifa games or is it either or.

    1. RogersRob

      Hi Brian,

The $5 is a recurring charge but can be cancelled at any time and pro-rated. The $10 fee will get you access to all FIFA content and is non-refundable. Hope that clears it up for you.

  10. Teren

    Hi there,

Unfortunately, the app doesn’t seem to work on my Nexus One. And there is a blank error message as well when I start it up. Is there any chance of it working before the World Cup?

    1. RogersRob

      Hi Teren,

We updated the post to reflect that unsupported devices – including the Google Nexus One – cannot run the Rogers On Demand Mobile app at this time.

  11. Folks, does Rogers not own Fido? I’m a Rogers digital HD cable and internet customer and I have a Fido iPhone 3Gs (I’ve been a happy Fido customer for 13 years).

Rogers owns Fido, so why not allow Fido customers to use Rogers On Demand Mobile.

Your cousins at Fido want to play too!!! :)

    1. RogersRob

Chris, the Fido team appreciates your business!

Currently the RODM app is only available for Rogers customers, but there are other ways you can get your World Cup on.

Go to from your device and click on the 2010 Fifa World Cup icon. You’ll be able to sign up for text alerts and other content.

Then there’s Rogers On Demand Online for your desktop. Have you checked out RODO yet?

  12. Nathan

I was just wondering if there was an equivalent app available for the sony ericcson xperia x10?? And when it will become available? Is it also just available for Canadian users or can the world cup streams be accessed from the UK?

How much will it cost? And can the membership be cancelled without a penalty after the world cup?

    1. RogersRob

      Hi Nathan,

Rogers On Demand Mobile is designed for Rogers customers only, and it will work on an X10. It’s available now – just search Android market or click here from your Android device.

The $10 fee listed above is for 2010 FIFA World Cup but the $5 monthly subscription can be cancelled following the World Cup. That said, I recommend you check out RODM’s other features before you cancel.

  13. sargon

im trying to get this app on my blackberry bold. i cant find the app on rogers mall or on blackberry app store where can i get the mobile on demand?

    1. RogersRob

Sargon, RODM for BlackBerry will be ready later this week. We’ll update RedBoard when it’s live, but you should also be able to find through the after it’s uploaded.

  14. Kat

I have Xperia X10, no data plan (i know … but Rogers data plans are to expensive for me).

If i buy the app, 5$ and pay the one time fee 10$, can i use the service?
Oh, and it can be cancelled at teh end of the world cup?

    Thank you.

    1. RogersRob

A data plan is required to use the app for authentication reasons. Note that if you did have a data plan, RODM video wouldn’t count towards that bucket.

      1. Kat

So basically i only need the 25$ data for 2 months.
        10$ one time fee.
2×5$ to access rogers on demand for 2 months.

The service can be cancelled after the world cup without any fees.

  15. Calvin

I currenty use a blackberry bold 9000. I do not have a Data plan with rogers.

How can I download the app? It says downloading the app is for free and there will be no data charge. By visiting the rogers app site through my phone wihout a data plan that that charge me?

    1. RogersRob

      Hi Calvin,

A data plan is required to activate and access the content on RODM.

  16. russ

I have a curve 8520. Is it gonna work on this or do I need a bold?

    1. RogersRob

RODM won’t work on a Curve 8520 at this time, Russ. You can see our list of supported devices at

  17. Kyle

World Cup starts in 2 days and the BlackBerry app is still set to release later this week? Come on Rogers, its not like you knew about this event yesterday.

  18. Bryce

it is great to see the app on the android device, however not so great to see it is not universally supported across all android devices.

I know the current version is not supported on the nexus one, however is there any intentions of release an update to allow for all android devices to take advantage of this great service? Don’t see what the problem with allowing an app to run on all android devices…

    1. RogersRob

Not right now, but I hear you and will pass it along to the team here.

  19. KEITH

Hi,i have read the other posts on the data usage however please clarify:
the data usage will not count towards my current data plan limit 500mb. Will be charged extra for the data used outwith my data plan?
And yes, its been 4 yrs in planning and 48 hrs to go and no blackberry app yet? cmon!

    1. RogersRob

      Hey Keith,

RODM won’t count towards your 500 MB data bucket. So if you exceed 500 MB using other data, the standard plan overages apply.
      Does that clear it up?

      1. keith

kind of, so if its not touching my current 500mb data plan, rogers must have an idea how much data streaming a 90 minute soccer game will use in mb and costs? can you advise?

  20. Piru

    Hey Rob,

Do I need to get the ROD app subscription for $5/month PLUS the $10 FIFA addon, or is the $10 FIFA addon enough if I just want to get the soccer content?

    1. RogersRob

You need both to get started, but once 2010 FIFA World Cup ends, you can cancel the $5 subscription and pay based on the amount of time you’ve used the app.

Before you do that, I recommend checking some of the other RODM programming so you can see what you get for the $5. That is if you can even consider watching non-soccer content from June 11 to July 11! :)

  21. Chris

Just agreeing with Bryce that it would be nice for rogers to allow this on all 2.1 devices like the nexus one. Hopefully they change their minds.

  22. russ

I’m starting to get worried. World cup is so close and the bb app aint ready yet? If its not ready in time wouldn’t this be a significant loss in potential revenue for rogers? Which company is responsible for making this app?

    1. RogersRob

      @Russ @Kyle @Calvin @Sargon

We just updated the post with news that Rogers customers with BlackBerry 9000, 9100 or 9700 are able to download the application via Rogers mobile portal at Note the URL only works when viewing from a mobile device.

  23. Hmm….one day until the games start, and still no BlackBerry App…. :( *sigh*

  24. al

hello and thank you for making this available, although i have both rogers and fido lines I am planning on watching this on my fido line; would that be possible?

ie activate on rogers sim and watch on fido sim; i have a data plan so dont mind it being deducted off my plan if possible. Make it so ROGERS; fido also has many football fans..!!

    1. RogersRob

Hi Al, I’m not sure that’s possible. What kind of smartphone do you have?

      1. Al

I would like to use an iPhone.

  25. Maggie

Still no iPhone app either :(

    1. RogersRob

Hi Maggie, RODM is live in itunes, as updated in the post yesterday:

      1. Maggie

I get a message when I click on that that it cannot complete my request. What am I doing wrong. I’ve tried on 3G and wifi.

      2. RogersRob

        Hi Maggie,

You need to have WiFi turned off for it to work. Any luck since your comment?

      3. Maggie

No I still get the error message but I realized that this is for smart phones and I was trying to use it on an iPad!! Oh well, I’ll just watch on TV.

  26. Charles R

I noticed the list of compatible devices does not show the LG Eve GW620 though I already have the app since the original press release. I even updated the app yesterday when prompted. So far it works fine…though there is no way to test live stream. The news clips work flawless.

  27. Tim R

Any news on that Blackberry App yet. Kickoff is less than 18 hours away!

    1. RogersRob

      Yes Tim, it’s available via

  28. Paul

Come on, Rob – have a heart.
Let Fido customers watch the World Cup on their Iphones!
We’re all part of the same family.

  29. marc

    so the app came out.
    5 dollars a month.
    someone explain the logic please.
    I mean clips?

    1. RogersRob

Once the action starts, you’ll be able to watch full games on your phone. And to clarify, there’s a one-time $10 fee to get the FIFA content, in addition to the recurring $5 charge.

  30. Oliver

I’m a iPhone user with Fido, and have Rogers cable and Internet. It is infuriating that the Rogers on demand mobile app will not work for me. Especially since the RogersRadio app has no problem authenticating me as a Rogers/Fido client. I really want to watch world cup matches on my phone, and am practically trying to give you my money. Please address this issue, and let me know why being a Fido customer is fine for listening to Rogers radio, and not for video.

  31. shah

I am a rogers wireless customer and opened an account just now because I thought the fifa world cup offer was FREE for us. But having read the messages here I am getting the idea that a $10 one-time fee applies. If it is the case, can I terminate the account and not pay the $10 fee?

  32. Attention Rogers BlackBerry 9000, 9100, 9700 users: the Mobile app is FINALLY available!!!!

Hey why can’t 8900 users use this app??? I know I don’t have 3G, but why can’t I still access via WIFI??? Definitely not fair. Very upset over this Rogers. Feel like I’m been left out. :(

  33. Steve G.

I have an iPhone and downloded the ROD app, then selected the World Cup game and then the $5/month option. This brought me to a screen that explained the $5/month cost and one time $10 cost. I selected the Subscribe button, then after a few seconds get a pop up saying “There was an error in billing”. I’ve turned off WiFi so am on 3G.

Why won’t it allow me to subscribe!??

  34. Kellie

Ahhh trying to subscribe to the FIFA addition (already am subscribed to the on demand mobile) for iphone, theres no subscribe button ANYWHERE…HELPPPP the games are about to start

    1. RogersRob

Have you tried clicking on some of the content to watch? That should prompt the subscribe process.

  35. keith

Well unless am wrong I am watching on my bold 9000 via wireless and its cool and there should be very little data use as its wireless

    1. Tim R

Nobody seems to read the comments. RogersRob has said multiple times now that this app doesn’t tap in to your monthly data allotment with your account.

  36. Charles R

The video streams live for 2-3 mins then stops and I have to go back to the menu and select again. ??? Is this what we get for $10?

  37. keith

With respect though rogers has not given any indication how much it will cost approx to watch a game if we are not using the data unless the 10 bucks covers it all?

  38. KelLie

So I’m watching the game and nowhere did it ask me to subscribe or add the FIFA pack to my bill.

    1. RogersRob

Hi Kellie, what smartphone are you using to watching it on?

  39. Jimmyto

I think this is totally unacceptable that FIDO users can access the Rogers on demand mobile app especially since I am a Rogers Cable and Internet User!!!!!

  40. @Keith Rob has mentioned many times on here that the $10 covers all data when using the ROOD mobile app. Any data usage does not get counted towards your data pool(500mb, etc).

  41. Lol. I meant the RODO mobile app. :-P

  42. Greg

I’m having the same problem, getting error “There was an error in billing”. i caleld rogers and they said they have recieved a couple calls about this but sofar have no idea what is causing it.

  43. Javier

I Subscribed yesterday and i`m watching the FIFA games. My question, why can i watch the games connected to my wifi mobile but not when not connected to my wifi? Thanks

    1. RogersRob

Hi Javier, sorry but can you elaborate what you mean by WiFi mobile?

  44. Mark

I’m getting the same “There was an error in billion” problem as well. If you ever find out what causes it, please post it!

    1. RogersRob

Mark, sorry to hear about the error. What smartphone are you using?

      1. Mark

I’m on an iPhone 3GS and using the rod mobile app

      2. RogersRob

Have you tried clicking through to watch some of the videos? That prompts the subscription request.

      3. Mark

I’m able to get to the subscription request. It’s when I click to subscribe, it loads for about 20 seconds then prompts with the error

      4. ham

I am getting the same problem.
I have tried removing the app and reinstalling it. Restarting. Clicking more than once. I’ve called Rogers customer service and they don’t know why. I’ve called tech support, and billing as well.

        What can I do?

  45. Dom

The Rogers office commercial leads me to believe that Rogers customers can watch FIFA 2010 on laptop tv or phone for free. But there is a charge to access the games on the iPhone app?

    1. RogersRob

Yes, click here for all the details: Also recommend you visit

  46. Ash

    Hi Rob,

Quick question about RODM. I saw from your posts that watching the WC does not subtract from my data plan. Does that include all RODM programs? Not just the WC?

    1. RogersRob

      Yes, that’s correct.

  47. Tim

I’m having the same problem as Mark. Been trying to sign up for the last two days but keep getting “there was an error in billing” message. This happens if clicking the subscribe button after browsing through a program or going through settings. WiFi is off, app has been removed and reinstalled, phone has been rebooted. This is on an iPhone 3G

  48. Matthew

Hey, I downloaded the Rogers on Demand App for my iPhone 3GS, but when I go to subscribe for the $5 a month + 1 time $10 fee, i get an error, it reads “There was an in billing”.

What can I do to fix this error?

    – Thanks.

  49. Greg

I also use the Iphone 3GS 16gb with the ROD app from the app store… and I tried other channels and try to subscribe that way. Same billing error still.. They tried to reset my account and reboot the iPhone from Rogers end. Still no luck

  50. paul

I’m getting the same “there was an error in billing” issue. I click through to the games, I try subscribing in the settings, everything. I’m on 3G with an iPhone 3GS.

  51. paul

I think I figured out the problem we’re all having. It’s not clear in the writeup but I bet you need to subscribe to Rogers TV to use Rogers on Demand. So those who don’t have Rogers and are with someone else for TV (or of course don’t have cable) can’t use Rogers on Demand despite having a Rogers mobile plan.

If so, the wording should be looked at in the post as it’s not clear Digital Cable customers only can access the mobile app.

    1. RogersRob

Hi Paul, actually all that’s not accurate.

All customers with that have wireless plans with Rogers, plus compatible devices can use Rogers On Demand Mobile.

That said, we’ll be in touch to see how we can help with your issue.

      1. Stephen

Hello Roger, I’m having the same problem. The Tech serv rep with Rogers was concerned that I did not have the IMEI # of my iphone registered under that account although everything is legit. They were trying to add the IMEI to the account and they said I would lose my per second billing and 10 Cents long distance in NA. They put in a ticket and will get back to be aobut it… so weird.

  52. Jack

    Hey Rob,
I got a quick question, i’m a fido customer and i know that rogers is the parent company, will I be able to get access over my fido 3g network..?

    1. RogersRob

Hi Jack, Fido customers aren’t able to access Rogers On Demand Mobile at this time. But you’ll be able to access some of the great 2010 FIFA World Cup content by visiting on your mobile device.

  53. Akhan

hi i have fido and i have no data plan but i have unlimitted text.. is there a way i can receive text coverage of the world cup??

    1. RogersRob

      Hi Akhan,

Yes. Please visit and sign up for text alerts.

  54. connor

    hey Rob,

Question, how is the quality of the 3G streaming games?

    1. RogersRob

      Hey Connor,

I’ve watched three games myself on RODM and I’m impressed by the picture and sound quality. What device do you have?

  55. Ramzi

What’s the status on “There was an error in billing” message ?? the WC is almost over …

  56. Quelly

To everyone that got the “error in billing” message….. just call Rogers!
I called and they were able to add the subscription to my account.
Just in time for the Brasil game! :D

  57. Matthew

Just called rogers, they set it up in record time.
    Time to watch some fifa.

  58. Ramzi

    Yes it works. Call Rogers.

  59. Greg

Yup mine worked too, jsut call billing and tell them to add it manualy on your account

I uninstalled My account and Rogers on Demand, then reinstalled it

    all works :)

  60. Greg

yep i can say it worked for me

    1. RogersRob

      @Greg @Ramzi @Matthew @Quelly Glad you’re all up and running.

Hope you’re enjoying 2010 FIFA World Cup. I’m off to catch more of the Brazil game!

  61. brian

the iPhone app is great when it’s working, but I can’t seem to watch a full match, and occasionally it will just play a few seconds of the game then time out.. this definitely needs to be more consistent. I’m running an iPhone 3Gs and having the game cut out for even 10 seconds is brutal!

  62. Ramzi

Anyone clicking “Watch Now” … then “Loading Movie …” comes up … then it kicks out again ?

  63. Steve G.

What number did you call or department did you speak to at Rogers when calling in to resolve? I just spoke with Sales and 2 people in Tech Support and ended up with my issue being reported to level 2 support who should supposedly fix it within 24 hours? Any advice on how to get to someone that knows how to fix this??

  64. Hey guys.

The iPhone Rogers on Demand Mobile app won’t even load the videos now. It’s been dropping connections for a few days, and now I can’t even get it to load a single video, never mind World Cup videos (which is why I bought a subscription in the first place.) What is going on?!

  65. Greg

anyone else not able to watch the brazil vs north korea game? the player starts to load then i get sent back to the ROD menu.. I tried the MTV channel and it works fine

  66. Quelly

Hi RogersRob…unfortunetly after about 30mins into the game it stopped streaming and it wouldn’t load :( I even restared my iPhone and the app. about 20 times but it would just kick back to the main screen.

  67. sargon

    hey rob
i have the LG eve the app was working over the first weekend but a couple days it said that the service is nit supported on this device? any updates?

    1. RogersRob

Sorry, but that’s not on the list of supported devices and won’t work with RODM.

  68. shai

Is there any way to play the h264 friendly video from the iPhone app on a Mac/PC? I’m trying to keep up with matches, and Flash is making me absolutely bonkers, slowing down so badly by the 70-min mark that the match turns in to a slideshow. Controls become super-unresponsive, and trying to adjust the timeline past the 20 minute mark crashes every time.

I’m running the latest 10.1 release, tried in both Chrome and Safari 5, which did fix a lot of viewing problems, but it’s running at %115 CPU capacity across two cores, and still choking everything else out.

Ok, after calling 3 times yesterday and speaking with 6 different people, Rogers got my subscription working so that I could at least successfully subscribe to the ROD and FIFA mobile package. However, now that there is a game on, every time I click on the Watch button for the Chile v Honduras game, the ROD app crashes and sends me out to the iPhone springboard. Tried about 10 times this morning with the same result. Tried rebooting the phone, tried deleting and redownloading the ROD app…no difference.

Is anyone successfully streaming the game this morning? Can Rogers help resolve the issues with this app?

Rob – I bought the app so I can watch the games continuously. The stream keeps crashing over 3g. I missed the entire brazil game yesterday because the stream wouldnt connect. Any idea why?

      Hi Ary,

Sorry to hear. What smartphone are you running the app on?

  71. Steve G.

Spoke with a Rogers Tech Support rep. this morning who said that the reason my app keeps crashing and can’t launch the streaming is because my SIM card is apparently a 2006 model that is not a 3G SIM card and therefore can’t handle this. Supposedly my iPhone would have come with one (and I may be using my own I had prior to the iPhone). The other option she said is to purchase a new one for about $9 at a Rogers store.

Would have liked to have known this information before subscribing, but I’ll have to check to see if I do have another SIM card that came with my iPhone. If not, I guess I’ll cancel the subscription and request a refund.

Hey Steve, I don’t think that the SIM card is to blame 100% because I’m using the 3G one that came with my IPhone and the app. kept crashing yesterday as well. I would guess that it’s probably something to do with the bandwidth. I think Rogers should refund the extra $10 to everbody who signed up to watch the World Cup.

    Hi Rob,

Everyime i try to access – on my blackberry 9000 i get an error message ” Wifi Deteced” We are unable to authenticate as you are currently not on the rogers mobile network. Please disable your WiFI connection”. My Wifi is turned off and i am connected to the 3G network. Any idea how to make this work? Thanks

Rob – I am using iPhone 3GS. I’m was having the same “loading movie” problem then it kicks out to the main screen for the Brazil game. Now the stream seems to be working for both the Spain and South Africa games. But if I incur this issue again, how do i remedy the situation?

    1. RogersRob

Hi Ary, I see – you should be fine.

Yesterday’s games had a lot of people tuning in. We’ve been making adjustments that should improve people’s experience with RODM.

    2. Tracy

hi clear the cookies and the history of the iphone in settings and powercycle, this would certainly help.

How dissapointing to find that the games are not free. The advertisments lead me to believe they are, but you need to spend $15 to get them on mobile (Not to mention you NEED a data plan despite the games not using your data, and the blackberry messenger plan apparently does not count as a data plan). Sucks cause I really only want it to watch 1 game on saturday and im not paying $15 for that. Also, The actual free games you can watch live (on the rogers on demand website) are run in flash, which is choppy as hell unless you have a proper computer, so I cant even watch those ones. I just feel bad for all the non rogers customers who joined rogers just for thier world cup promotions only to be bombarded with all these hidden fees and bandwidth issues. I’m already with rogers so luckaly I didnt waste any money.

      Hi Mike,

We clearly indicate on the pricing for RODM on the FIFA page and in our blog post above.

Why haven’t you addressed the issue that everyone is having with the Billing Error?

    1. RogersRob

      Hi Ted,

We’ve connected with some commenters who have gotten that message to try to resolve. If you are experiencing that, then a quick call to Care should address it.

  76. Brian

How come it tells me “billing problem” after I try to subscribe through the app??

    1. RogersRob

      Hi Brian,

Care should be able to help you with that.

3g service is spotty where I am, but I have WiFi, when will Rogers enable the app to stream via Wifi?

    1. RogersRob

RODM works via WiFi, but it initially needs to authenticate via the 3G network upon signup. There may be periodic prompts to authenticate by 3G as well.

How long after games are done will they be available on ROD?
